I have the purple shaft 284 484 cam in my 440. Would i have any clearance issues running the isky 292 505 cam?
I have the L2266 pistons, 906 heads. Nothing has been milled or decked. The determining factors are:
-Which pistons you have, and their deck clearance
-whether you have adequate retainer to seal clearance
-how much the heads have been milled
If you have pretty much any piston with valve pockets, that part of the equation should be fine.
Same if you have a late model engine with the pistons down .100+…….unless the heads have been milled a bunch…….then it becomes “maybe”.
Retainer to seal clearance……..max lift +.050”.
You can use any lifter you desire.. but the real question is, which ones are good?? I'd hate to see cost force you into a sub standard lifter. My block is a '68 440 hp block. And is there an alternative lifter to use other than isky lifters that don't cost $450 for the hydraulic lifters?
I would have picked them up at that price and had them checked for proper taper.I passed on a set of Mopar ,Comp cam hydraulic flat lifters at the swap meet today. New in the box with a 2014 date.
Guy wanted $80, I was not sure when the steel went to crap on them.
Have your current lifters refaced. The 284 & 292 cams have similar specs. The 292 will have a rougher idle & less low end
A couple lifters are concaved. Not worth getting them refaced.Have your current lifters refaced. The 284 & 292 cams have similar specs. The 292 will have a rougher idle & less low end tq.
