Can I tow 67 Coronet w/727 behind motor home?

Can it be towed four wheels down? Has anybody done this? Does the stock 67 Torqueflite have an internal oil pump where I could just put it in neutral and tow it, or would I have to have a driveshaft disconnected?
 
short distance...neutral is fine...long distance..remove the driveshaft
 
What terzmo said. The Torqueflite does not have a rear pump that turns when the output shaft turns therefore, the rear of the trans will not see any lube when the engine is off. The first thing that usually goes is the driveshaft slip yoke bushing then the rear trans output shaft bearing. And short distance is usually considered to be 25 miles or less iirc and at low speeds.
 
Since I haven't finalized the purchase yet, perhaps I would be better off buying one with a 4 speed?
 
So let me understand, you're not wanting to take the drive shaft out is going to necessitate you finding another car? You want to might consider stamp collecting.
 
you pull up in your motorhome and want to go for a drive in your coronet, 1 thing you dont want to be doing is getting under car and pulling driveshafts in and out every time thats just stupid, maybe the guy is getting a bit older and his body wont allow him to be crawling around on the ground anymore.

i think he is making a viable choice
 
More viable choice is tow backed on a car dolly with steering strapped. Also If you get in a backing up situation you can unstrap the steering and have someone steer the car while you back the motorhome. Makes it easy in a pinch.
 
did that with a 67 camaro and never again....anytime over 52 MPH the car and dolly went squirrel..
 
Daredevil: Never to tow a vehicle backwards, the wheels will always want to turn left or right from the force created by being pulled, regardless of how well they are locked.
Rustyratrod: I collected stamps when I was a kid but my brother always stole the best ones from me, so I gave it up. Also, I have a 4 speed all picked out in case I change my mind on the Coronet.
Benno440: One doesn 't have to pull the driveshaft off anymore, there exists a driveshaft disconnect device which makes it very easy to "disconnect" without pulling it off.
Moparsmitty: I have a flatdeck car trailer, but they are a pain to store when at a campground.

Yeah, sometimes I say stuff off the cuff......I oughtta know better in this case cause I AM disabled and older than my years. My apologies....I was actually just bein humorous.
 
Use your trailer. Much easier on the towed vehicle and you can back it when you need to.
Most campground offer a place to park trailers away from your site.
