Can I use a 1965 BB 727 with my 1966 440?

As I continue to look for known good 727’s (BB), I do have a cable 1965 727 (BB) out of a 1965 Imperial.
Can I run this behind my 440 that’ll go into a 66 Charger. I think the answer is YES. I have to use the right torque converter. I think I read where 1965 and 1966 use the smaller shaft. BUT-
Are there any options for converting the cable shifting mechanism to a link mechanism? I have plenty of cores to cobble something together if I can. Thx!
 
You would have to adapt a '64-'65 console shifter to your Charger to operate the two cables. The transmission mount is different, too. I know there are conversion mounts to adapt newer transmissions to older B-bodies, but am not sure if there is anything out there to go the other way.
 
There are still millions of 727's out there. 71-77 are the best ones. If you were closer to Michigan i could build you one.

That '65 trans is a unicorn... sell it for 3x what you can buy a 727 off marketplace for yourself to use... the 65 they only made for 1 year. if you were local i would buy it in a heartbeat
 
Why would you change to a more complicated system? You have a much-improved shifting mechanism as is. A 71 up transmission is the answer. Imperials used a goofy output shaft arrangement, with a bolt on yoke, not the slip yoke. I'm not exactly sure of the 65 Imperial but I know that a 64 had this goofy joint.

it wasn't imperial, it was all 64 and before 727s, 65 is the only year for a pushbutton and slip yoke... that's why it's special. and i want a spare :)

I'm not speaking of the ball and trunnion flange but a bolt on cross joint for the Imperial cars. I have one and was disheartened to learn that it was not the slip yoke. I feel your pain in looking for a "65 slipper". Imperials were absolutely different. They had a two-piece driveshaft.
