Pardon me if this is a dumb question but I was just curious.
Let’s say you had a set of door locks with a working key.
Can you change the ignition tumbler to work with the key from the doors?
I know you can change door locks, just curious if the ignition can be altered as well.
Thanks all.

Yes, by a locksmith.

I believe you can, but I’m not sure about the column key switches. I know the in dash switches can. A little story….

When I was younger, we would borrow my buddies brothers dodge sportsman van and take it to parties. We picked up this boisterous young chick who insisted that she hold the key because she thought that we would leave her with no ride home. She lost the key, so we emptied out the tumblers of the in dash key switch and just used another Chrysler key we had. We gave that key to his brother and he was never the wiser that now any key would work in the ignition. So yea, it can be done.

I seem to remember there is a member on this site that responded to a similar question that they could accomplish this but the lock(s) needed to be mailed to them.

Sorry for not having a name.

The dealers had kit that had all the different tumblers in it and a tool that would measure the points(?) on the keys. They could then match up tumblers to the key.
