Can you fix this engine block?

I just found this browsing ebay

I'm not looking to buy this, i'm not even building engines but i'm curious how serious this kind of damage really is?

And since i'm so curious and knowledge never hurts i decided to ask you guys.
I imagine it can be fixed since the guy is asking $$$ but how serious is this and how would one be going to fix it?

I would also imagine the second "issue" is minor and can be left alone?

Unless that is some super rare engine, I'd pass on it. Sure, it can be welded and machined but with so many other engine blocks out there in better shape, this may not be worth the effort. Do you know what happened?

I thought the “HP” stamp in ‘70 meant it had the “Six Pack” rods and offset weight balancer.

Also... do people actually pay more for a block because it is stamped HP?

The HP stamp makes that block worth selling your first born.....NOT..... but they are getting hard to find.... you may have to spend more than 30 seconds looking, that can seem like an eternity to a millennial....

I didn't look at the price but there is nothing so severely damaged that would cause me to shy away from using that block.

Block can be sleeved, not sure what that costs now. That makes this block worth just a bit more than they spent on that shiny orange paint they used in their "prep".

I wouldn’t pay 2,250 for that block if it was perfect! Now if i had the car it belongs to i may consider it but otherwise pass on it.

no and a fresh block paint job do not make it worth it period love the use of RARE

That block doesn't need a sleeve. The damage isn't that severe. If you own a torch, fill those dings with braze.

Max wedge valve reliefs cut out part of the deck, 2 on each cylinder. Do some measuring on a stock head gasket, or use a larger bore head gasket for a 540/572 engine.

Forget about this particular block, seller is foolish.

as soon as I saw who the seller was....been way over priced for years.

The block isn't junk but WAY over priced. They tried on FBBO as members. PMed a member about if selling on here being an ebay seller was right. (I was a new member) They were contact by Joey? they tried to sell but don't think they had many buyers. I call them nearly junk dealers. My Opinion.
