Can you have too many tools?

Metric does make more sense, graduations of 10's are so much easier to deal with than these crazy Imperial fractions. Figuring out the insane fluid graduations in Imperial drives me nutz. Why the puck are their 12 units in one big one rather than 10 units in one big one and so on.
The only thing sillier than Imperial is having to deal with both and that's where we've been at for several decades now.

Really? A 13mm socket makes sense?
A 4x8' sheet of PW makes sense, A 1219.2 x 2438.4 mm sheet does not.
15" tires still make sense across the Globe.
If metric (10's) makes so much sense and easy, why hasn't the world converted to metric time?

Metric originally was based on the meter that was defined by 1 millionth of the distance between the poles. I can't relate to that. Maybe a rocket scientist can.
A foot was just look down.
An inch was look at width of your thumb,
A yard was what you could measure between your nose and your outstretched hand.

But yeah converting to 2 metre by 3 metre plywood would take a change of thinking from everything from drawing up house plans to sizing a pickup truck bed.

Ever try to carry a 2x3 meter of 19mm PW?

Not since I was 24 or whatever metric years are.

A mile is 1609 meters, is that better in some way?

I guess the conflict here is fractions.
Everything in the real world pretty much revolves around fractions.
10's are a man-made construct other than fingers and toes.

Let me be clear, the metric Rubicon has been crossed, I get that, doesn't mean I have to like it or that it makes any real sense for the non-scientific world.

My brother was a tear down guy in a body shop.Take the wreck apart, when body and paint done he put them back together.
His most used tool was 10 MM socket,wrench and gear wrench. He said he could take apart 80% of new cars.

I will add 7,8,13,and15mm and a few small torx bits. That and his 10 will do most of them, lol

I have too many tools I needed only once and could not have borrowed or rented.

I agree with the person that commented on the convenience of using a tool cart. I have one from HF that has almost every tool I need to do 90% of the jobs in my garage.

The only tool I wish I had is a lift but my ceiling is not tall enough.

most of mine are worn out and/or broken....... I haven't really spent money on tools in over 20 years; all of that money went/goes into my building......... I could use a new set of decent Phillips screw drivers tho

The metric system is base-10, which is nice cause I still got 10 fingers. The units are based of some pretty fun things, though. The meter is derived from the speed of light. The gram from the weight of water. Temperature, from freezing 0 to 100 boiling point. It's kind of cool and geeky fun stuff.

Yes and no. When the meter was decided as a standard, the speed of light was still being measured as concept, later on I believe it became a reference.
Anybody using their fingers to count with is excluded from this conversation, and you apparently don't work in the carpentry field.
Celsius does make a lot of sense.

I like the old 4 drawer Craftsman tool sets in the black plastic case. The ones where the top drawer is 1/4", second is 3/8", third is 1/2", and the deep bottom drawer has the combination wrenches. The box size is easy to move around, and I'll often take a socket drawer out to have when working under the car. The plastic drawers do a good job of keeping things in order too. They just don't come with a good selection of combination wrenches. I added full sets of SAE and Metric wrenches to my box. I painted the SAE and Metric wrenches different colors to make them easier to pickout from the bottom drawer. I also added GearWrench wobble extensions, and some screwdrivers to the box. Now it has most of the stuff I need except plyers.
I seem to use this tool set often because of how easy it is to move around and take with me. It also fits great in the back seat area of my 2005 Ram 3500. With the short part of the rear drivers side seat folded up, and the box on the flat load floor, the part of the load floor that extends can fold up to secure the tool box and held in place with the seat belt. I'll have to take a photo, but it works good to secure the box when traveling.

It was decided that's when some concoction of saline brine freezes.

I just filled up my new black roll cab....now I need a top box to store the remainder of my stuff.

I've also been giving away many of my misc sockets, ratchets, boxes etc to my grand and great grand kids... gotta help them get started.
