Garage /shop layout

Wood wall framing began and the structure itself went up pretty quick in comparison to everything else that was done...

This was basically a 2 man build between me and my dad...Subs were used for excavation foundation...masonry and the concrete slab pour...

Cathedral trusses were used in line with the garage doors to obtain 13' 3" of clear space at the center of the peak while using 10' exterior walls...

I wasn't allowed to build a tall building due to being in a residential neighborhood...

In the end it looks like a typical garage...will never be enough space...and turned unusable land into something I can work with...

Last two pics are kind of before and after...The 1st was standing about where the post for the walkway is...

The main thing I have learned as I get older is that it is nice to have a separate clean area from a main dirty area, and then have the clean area be super lighted and insulated with HVAC. This way you have space for lots of projects, quads, tractors, etc but also an area where you can work in a comfortable environment all year long without having to heat/cool a giant shop. Add a body/paint room, a bathroom, a fridge, and then you have it all.

I'm just finishing up the 2nd addition on my shop. I built a loft this time so all my extra parts and junk can be stored out of the way. Also my wife's holiday decorations are stored up there in totes.

so true!!

My shop is split into two halves with the working bay being 17' x 28'...

The wall is almost in the middle of the section of wall between the two garage doors...

It's framed up for 2 24" pocket doors so I can have a 48" opening between the two sides...

I've framed drop bulkheads around the perimeter on 3 sides in the "working" bay with 960 lumen lights about every 6' apart...

I also have two 2' x 4' led ceiling lights going into the high portion of the ceiling...

The doors are 8' x 10' and 8' x 16' and have the jackshaft openers...The door tracks follow the interior slope of the ceiling...

The garage door installer wanted additional 2 x 6 blocking installed beside the openings for the door tracks so I covered that blocking with .040 aluminum prior to having the doors installed...

I really wanted material prices to drop some before finishing up the interior but it just doesn't look like that is going to happen...

The remaining 22' or so is for car and clean part storage...

Maybe some garage art in a few places and I have a 4 post lift so I can stack one above another...

Currently I have 4 cars running and driving...between keeping up with them and all of the home and yard maintenance I haven't been spending anything on the shop...it's just been storage...

On the front elevation above the brick I used a pvc plastic vertical board and batten siding and ran 1 1/2" outsulation between the slats for the vertical siding...

All the white soffit and roof trim was measured and fabbed up from .040 aluminum rather than cheap coil stock...

The overhang on the front was designed to be 3' wide for two reasons as it keeps water and snow 36" away from the garage doors and it also makes the roof look lower than it really is which makes the walls look shorter...
