I just hooked up a Generac 24Kw this past summer. Getting to old to man handle the portable gen set and run all those extension cords just to have PARTIAL power, then have to put it all away again when the main power comes back on. The Generac got its FIRST usage on December 31st, 2024 when power went out for half the day. I didn't have to do anything, stayed in the house and stayed WARM, all automatic now. Man was that NICE!!!

Since we're all electric out here, it's been a dream of mine to get a whole-house generator for years now.
Since the heat depends on the juice, it's what I fear more than anything - losing power, which our small
electric co-op does have a tendency to do.
To make matters worse, their computerized prioritization program always puts our little street on the back
end of re-establishing power once we lose it, too.
I am envious of you gents who have such a "Generac". Might I ask what cost is approximately?

Oh, P.S. - y'all make me grateful for our heat pump. A couple hundred bucks a month at worst; usually
half that in spring and fall.

mine was 11k installed plus you need a propane tank etc. you could check they may make diesel ones as an alternative, or natural gas it you have it in your area

I paid $1.449 per gallon for LP in August, that includes a .05 discount for summer fill, plus I get a .10 discount for owning the tanks. I’ve got 3 1000 gallon tanks that we used when we dried corn here. I go through about 400+ gallons heating the shop. The house is on natural gas. I hope to get a generac or Koehler generator hooked up sometime soon.

I spent about $6500 total on mine, I installed it myself, so there was a big savings there. Having someone else do the install usually at least doubles the cost.

I already had LP gas heat, so no additional cost for tank, etc.
