I'm building a 426 Street Wedge Tribute '64 Dodge Polara. The build has just begun with the build of the 440 and tear down of the car. To finish the cosmetic part of the 440 so it will appear as a 426 wedge it needed the proper Street Wedge air cleaner.

I'm not one to spend $300 on e-bay for a used piece that needs to be re-chromed so I decided to make my own. I started with a $25 swap meet single snorkel unit, made some mods and had it chromed. Here is what I started with.

Here is the finished product.

Total investment $150. Rather than post a dozen pics and type for an hour (yes I'm that slow) you can see the complete article on how this was done at my web site. http://www.hotrodsandhemis.com

Well dam! I`m on the hunt for an old air cleaner now! Thanks for posting this!

Good article, I'm thinking the same thing for my 426 wedge clone 1964 Dodge.

Good job!

I like your web site. The pic of the black '64 looks exactly like the car I had when I was younger, except I had Cragar SS wheels.

What cam did you use in your engine build? I'm building the same as you with the 452 heads.

Man, I've got a BUNCH of early single-snorkel tops! Hmmmmmm!

Just out of curiousity, would that single snorkel air cleaner be correct for a 63 Plymouth with the 383 4bbl engine?

I don't think so. I just purchased a 383 air cleaner for my 64 thinking it would fit over a Holley DP, nope! The one for the 383 is much smaller and they also came on some 6 cylinders. They look like the pic above and only fit on the carters. I'm going the same route as above and using a 426 street wedge style for more airflow.

Managed to pick this up tonight. From a 66 Coronet I believe.
Fits right on the 750 eddy and holley dp I have.

Cool, thanks for the info.I kinda prefer the smaller air cleaner for appearances and it probably makes adjusting the carb easier as well.I'll have to keep my eyes open for one like that and I'll get a measurement off the carb I'm going to run to make sure it's going to fit.

I'd sell mine for what I paid for it. PM me if interested

When I get some good ones Glen I will...if I am down your way for a cruise night I will shoot ya an email and maybe swing by and see yours.
