which is a better carb for a '67 318 2 bbl, a stromberg or a carter? the car came with a stromberg but i have also tried a carter. i'm having the engine rebuilt and the builder says to get a carb that will atomize better than what i have on it as it seems to be dumping way too rich of a mixture and washing the cylinder walls down. which would be the better one to rebuild?

A 67 is a la engine I would put a small 4v holley or quick fuel on it.

By the choices you give I have to assume you will use the 2 BBL carb. Neither one is easy to find calibration parts for so I'd say whichever one has the least amount of wear. Both carbs provide good drivability and atomization if everything is set properly. Make sure your floats are not too high. Also, the gas these days is not the same as it was and drivability may improve by blocking the intake manifold heat crossover.

Another option....

I would grab a 77-79 360 2bbl intake and carb from a bone yard. The holley 2bbl can be jetted like a reg holley, keep low end torque, and let it breath better in the top end. Worked for me more than once.

Its very hard to beat a Carter carb, the two choices you give it would be the Carter.. But I would seriously consider a 4 barrel set up..

If you MUST stick with a 2 barrel carburetor, I think I would get an adapter plate and go with one of the big Rochester 2GC carburetors. They are some of the best carburetors for 2 barrels there are.
