No one can take away what he's done, however, his latest Mustang conversions are priced into the Stratosphere, which has soured me on the new stuff. WI remember a story of a guy who had a slight fender bender on his new GT500 Mustang & it was like 18 grand for a replacement GT500 Mustang hood. Also, he was trying to sue Factory Five a few years ago.
RIP Carroll, He was for sure a living legend and will be missed. He seemed so excited on a show thursday night where he was talking about the day he could build a streetable 1000 horsepower mustang the way he did them today.
Well, at the time I think we were celebrating the 50th anniversary of Speedway Motors. Bill Smith (the owner) had a bunch of his friends come down to tour the machine shop and Carroll Shelby just so happened to be one of the guys visiting! So the night before I prepared a picture of a Cobra for him to sign. Carroll seemed pretty into all the stuff I was showing him (when I worked there I was the windshield frame fabricator and also did rollcages... got pretty good at bending tubing! ) We talked for maybe half an hour or so. Sure, most of it was off-topic stuff (mustangs and cobras), but you could tell he loved what he does (and knew so much!) This was about 10 years ago, but he was sharp as a tack! Still have that autographed picture of that Cobra hanging on my wall
