well sort of****
It seems that the racepak is showing me good WOT A/F Ratio but the car seems to have lost just a little 60 foot and 1/8th mile and feels just a tad lazy off the hit.
.119 square now from .116 and 6572 metering jets.
How can I get the car to react quicker and more crisper off the line, like before?
I'm usually 1.26- 1.27 60 foot footbraking at 2400 rpms.
Now it's 1.29-1.31 and going from a 5.75 to 5.83 1/8th mile

I cant remember what I changed other than the .116 to .119 metering jet.

Converter was just freshened and transmission as well with no passes on it yet.

mph is still the same at 149.75-150.12

lazyness could be a rich fuel issue, try putting a larger metering rod in the primary and see if it likes it, if it does , drop down a couple of jet sizes on the pri, and put back the rods you had in. then do it again etc. have to keep it crisp to get good 60 foots. my 2 cents worth.

Chris, though mine is square jetted as well (.113) I think it's wrong. These carbs always have a larger Primary jet than the Secondary jet
The area of a .116" jet is .010568".
The area of the .065" metering rod is .003318315
The difference for the jet with the rod and w/o the rod is .007249685
That works out to about 69%
It's my bet that our secondary's are to rich.
Also mine may even be a touch rich with .113" square
Race Pac air fuel is only a tool. It may go quicker leaner, and maybe not.
You'll never know until you try.
I use the O2 to look at fuel curve but not overall rich/lean.
It's a good indicator, but not Gospel.

thanks Doug, But I got my best et and mph with .119 jets but now weak off the hit. I know your right about having a bigger primary, but it looks like I need more upstairs. We are at near sea level and need more jet compared to your tracks. If I went .113 I would melt a piston.

What do you use to clean out the boosters, air bleeds and venturis, I seem to have varnish build up in the small orifices and need to clean everything out. All 5 sets of carbs. They are all clogged up.

wonder what size drill bit would fit inside the air bleeds and boosters?

Chris,

I would defiantly clean the carbs out. I do that every year because the fuel will leave a chalky residue all over. I use carb cleaner, a piece of wire from a wire tie run down the passages and blow it out with the air compressor.
As for the making adjustments, I would wait... it was the first day out you'll be chasing a fart in a whirlwind.
I sounds like the car is flying.... as a good friend of mine use to say....Don't D-Tune it.
Get another race or two on the car so you can get a base line.

going to disassemble 4 sets that 8 carbs and clean every orifice with the wire. Carb cleaner and air. I now know where my lost .07 went in the 1/8th and .15 in the 1/4. I want this feeling back.

i have used both an ultra sound cleaner with safety dip and a modified dental cleaner to get stubborn carbs clean.

I think this one will work. I'll let you borrow it, but I need it back next week. I have to clean the fuel injectors on my truck.

update on the carter carbs.
Got my best ever 60 foots in my 65 blue dodge. today was 1.24 on the back tires and consistent 1.25's all on the back tires way past the 60 foot mark. the coronet was insane.
all in all a great day. 7passes with all incredible 60 foots and 1/8th mile.

So the carter carb rebuild and modification worked out great and better than expected.

You're welcome for the win.

I thought the new guy would get a break from the pro's.
