You would think that the formulation has been changed after all these years! The stuff really kept the engine clean but it was kinda hard on parts.5 qt jug for $18.68 on Amazon for black Friday. I hope it's better than the stuff Cranky used, time will tell.

What was the time period that you were using it? I started using it in 73 shortly after buying my motorcycle. Bought it used but it had very few miles on it and the local Honda dealer carried the GTX and they recommended it. Figured if it was good enough for the bike turning 9k it was good enough for my cars too.I never had a problem with Castrol GTX, until the zinc was removed. I then switched my cars Valvoline VR1. Problem solved.
I don't remember the date I was notified that the zinc was removed, but I know that I used it into the 90's. When I found out, I immediately changed oil and filters on all my cars. I haven't even looked at the current formulation. I'm completely satisfied with VR1 or in some cases Shell Rotella. What was the time period that you were using it? Don't tell that to Diddy...It’s OK to hoard oil lol
Bob Miller ran Baby Blue on Castrol GTX 20W-50 from 1974 until 1983. He did oil changes every 2000 miles, and raced the car throughout the 70s. I continued to use the Castrol as well, from 1983 to 1991, with changes at about 700 miles, done every fall. Guy who bought the car said he would continue, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Switched to VR1 20W-50 because of the zinc issue when I got the car back in 2013. Current owner is doing the same. What was the time period that you were using it? Never saw any of that around here but think that's a good idea! The stuff made in the states could/should have used the LT additive during the 70/80's. I quit using the GTX in around the mid 80's after complete tearing down a 360 Dodge engine. That's when I finally realized what was going on. Funny thing a buddy told me that it wasn't all that good but wouldn't say what wasn't good about it.I still remember buying it when it advertised 'Liquid Tungsten'.
