I was able to get a 402 oil pan for my 69RR 383, I hope to install it this weekend. The counted guy at the auto parts store told me not to use gasket sealer just to install everything dry. His reasoning was, if you use RTV silicone on the block then the windage and then the pan they sometimes have a tendency to slide around and open up which causes leaks.

Your thoughts Please..................

If you too much RTV, yeah, it'll slide around. Just use a very thin smear and let it skin over a bit before you stick it all together. I only use a bit more in the corners but if you really want to make sure you get a good seal....use the yellow weather strip adhesive. Not only will it seal it up but you'll have a hard time getting it apart again!

Tried sealing mine up a couple of times with sealer but found the dry gaskets worked the best.

yup...do the gasket dry...it will "walk" and cause leaks if you use silicone on a cork gasket
