Check Your Lug Nut Torque!!!!!

My wife has nine lives, she has used up some so far but some years back on a rainy New Years day she did use one. We were on 95 North, actually just got on. We were in my sons car as he took my small truck. I just got into the middle lane to pass someone who was driving way to slow. I was going maybe 60 max. All of a sudden my wife yelled and i saw it. A tire rolling at a high rate of speed, bouncing in the air coming right at us. In those milli seconds i gripped the wheel hard, i was afraid to serve as i though id loose control. The tire was coming at us at a slight angle and i thought id miss it. It took a leap in the air went over the hood and struck the roof pillar on her side. It was a explosion. The interior piece flew off and the windshield caved in and covered her in glass. I got off to the shoulder and she and i were shaken up but ok. I called for help as i knew i needed a police report. I started to walk down the turnpike and i saw a SUV nose down against the middle divider in the south bound side A woman was inside holding her head. The troopers came and that vehicle was the one that the tire came off. It went over the divider.
Had that tire been off of a tractor trailer or any large truck, my wife may not be alive today. Had that tire hit the windshield straight on we both could have been killed.
Last summer i had some work done on my car. I was away from home and had a slow leak in one of my tires. I had the car in a driveway so i figured id take the leaker off and get it plugged. The tire i removed, two lugs were hardly tightened. One other was not bad but still not tight and the last two were ok. I called the shop soon afterwards and let them know.

Lol according to the torque multiplayer your torquing 9/16 in studs to over 900 ftlbs! That’s how studs break! Even semi 22.5s only torque to 475. Heck Average for a passenger car/light trucks (yes a 1ton is considered a light truck) is 85-150 ft lbs (all vehicles have their own specs) I’d run to harbor freight if I were you and pick up a cheapy just to be on the safe side
5/8" studs 350 ft lbs per manual, heavy duty commercial chassis, 4500 lb front axle, dana 70 rear not considered a light duty truck.

Passenger with oil could be dangerous if over torqued
If 100 lb dry you need 70 to 80 so be careful

Recheck torque often
