Cheetah manual valve body

SO I guess the question is does anyone make a low band apply Trans brake version RMVB?

Wait, so I can’t down shift while rolling with a rmvb with a brake?

I have found very few companies make a true reverse manual valve body with rear band apply, which protects the drum. Cope is one company that does, So that is what I bought. I would call John Cope and see if he can modify it for a TB if that is what you were looking for.

If it were me, I’d have a talk with the guy who built the vb. I’ve read so many bad stories about down shifts, burnouts, rear bands, drums exploding, that I must have talked to half the VB builders in the country. I spent 20-30 minutes talking with John Cope before buying his.

mine came from Rick at A&A, he used to supply Cope woh valvebodies before John started building his own. I’ll have to give him a call I guess

Yeah I thought yours was an A&A. Yeah I’d call rick and get his input. Better safe than sorry... not like you’d have to remove it, just know how it works so you don’t damage anything.

I went transgo Tf2 and hurst quarter stick pistol grip

This valve body is installed in a 727 that came with a 440 i just bought.
Can anyone tell if it's a "RACE ONLY" type?

This may be a dumb question, but can/should it be used in a street driven car?

The 727 in my RR need some work, and i was thinking about using the transmission with the Cheetah Valve Body during this period...

I can't find a listing for that valve body. Found 17899xa, but that is a full race transbrake body. If yours doesn't have a tranbrake solenoid, that's not it.
I was gonna suggest you call their tech line, till I saw you are in Norway. Maybe an email to them will work. Turboaction.com. (it looks like most every body they .make is full manual.)
For what it's worth.... I drove a full manual reverse pattern, no low gear band apply body (the one they say you can't use on the street) on a 440 Sixpack daily driver for ten years, 20 mile (32 kilometer) one way commute. It worked fine. Raced it too.
You just have to make EVERY shift, up or down, with the shifter. I currently have two 727s rmvb, a glide with a brake, and a turbo 400 that's gonna get a brake.

I also have the Cheetah MRVB in my 66 wagon. Works great! I'm going to use a Cope in my 65.

The reverse manual valve body can be excellent on the street, manual shifting is no problem. The brake valve body should work fine without using the brake feature.

  • Further info. My Satellite has a Cope RVMB which is great on the street. Back in the day a built a 727 with a Griner brake VB for my drag car. Decided I was a foot brake guy, so I didn't use the brake feature. It worked perfectly forr a full season without the brake. Took it apart, the internals were like new, still read Raybestos on the clutches, band was perfect. Just say'in.

Looks like it's got the Tranz Brake...

Nice piece, I'd run it. I love my tranbrake, but you need lots of traction, and LOTS of drivetrain strength to make it work (and not scatter drivetrain parts everywhere.) My car is light, meaning I probably was overkill for the stuff I did, but I never broke anything either.

Like I said before, use the brake or don't, whatever you like. Without using the brake, should be fine on the street.
33IMP, too much is just right for driveline parts, light car or not.

It coasts in low, it doesn't slow the car down, but you can downshift 2-1 just fine. At least that is what ours does with the cheetah also with our transbrakes.

There are two styles of RMVB with a brake, depends on which you have.
Edit: Also brake VB have changed over the years. Ask the manufacturer for the details.
