I don't see any way around doing a cowl-like hood on my 70 Roadrunner to have the headroom to fit the added height of my Weiand 6bbl Cross Flow intake, AND the N-96 air box and Air Grabber scoop door and various mechanisms. It will not have that pronounced peak line down the middle though, from what I have found.
The only other reasonable choice would be the tall "Six Pack" hood and scoop. I'm really hooked on the 70 Air Grabber though, and that's what I really want to put together.
I had the Weiand on my 440, to test fit, but Cristobal was brewing in the Gulf and I had to cut that short and put the Edelbrock/Chrysler 6bbl intake back on, in case I had to move my car (which I did). What I'd like to have in the "raised section" of the hood is enough height to fit the 70 Air Grabber AIRBOX, and the taller than stock K&N air filter, because I've seen flow numbers and I want to run a filter, and the additional height of the K&N is a big factor in providing that extra flow. There are a couple of K&N filters taller than stock, one is an "off the shelf" at 3½" tall IIRC, and I think the other special order one is 4" tall.
If the CFM of the 3½" one is adequate, that is my preference. So that is one factor I didn't have to be able to measure before. I also have to consider any height variations between my iron head 440 and the Max Wedge ports on the TF 270s on the BME aluminum block. Finally I may want to add the space of a Nitrous Express 2bbl spray plate that I have, so I can accommodate that if I ever want to add it.
I thought my AMD N96 hood was the last hood I'd ever have. I really want to make this next one live up to that.
Or I can just get
@vintage chromoly to come by with the Sawzall and a nice coarse tooth wood blade (to save time on cutting out the hole) Put some black air conditioner lines insulation around the edge of the sheet metal opening and call it done.
