As a former resident of the Chicago area I can't resist posting this.

Last night I was watching the news. There was a brief report showing the illustrious Chicago mayor reporting that Chicago would remain a "sanctuary city". Sanctuary city? I actually burst out laughing! A sanctuary for who? Doesn't he know that 4000 people have been shot there so far this year? How he could make a statement like that with a straight face is absolutely amazing. Here's something from Miriam Webster: sanctuary meaning, definition, what is sanctuary: protection or a safe place, especially for someone or something being chased or hunted Chicago doesn't seem to fit.
 
Around 30% of the people in the city of Chicago are below the poverty level. Like most big cities the a lot of the residents don't earn enough to pay income tax. To those people the candidates that promise to raise taxes on the "rich" and provide more "free stuff" sound like a good idea.

Exactly. Was going to get more specific but left it where it was. That's a certain party's go to target audience.
 
So why would they evict the people who vote them into office?
They need to maintain a permanent underclass that votes for a living. Defunding the sanctuary cities is the only answer

It looks like has to do with immigration and seeking out people solely on the basis of immigration issues. Prosecuting criminals (US or immigrant) is a separate issue.

It also looks like it could have implications for federal funding, but the last words I heard on the news about it from someone in the transition team looked like there would be lots of work arounds so funds would probably still flow.
 
I can no longer live there because my wife decided to become a commisioned officer in the free s#1t army. It was a nice place for me until about the time Obama was elected.....after that it was like continuous p*ssing into the wind. All parasites and not enough hosts. The only way it could work was with me working 7 days a week and hoping that I could get a few 12 hour days to catch up with debt. Never happened.
Neither did the 9 day weeks I prayed for so I could work 7 and still get 2 days off per week. Or the 30 hour days I prayed for...that didn't happen either.
It's a sanctuary for people who are much more entitled than I.
I am only entitled to work.

Lol, Just look at where the Illinois Electoral votes went and what county drove that.
IMO, Cities such as this are the plantations of today. Hard working folks making just enough to get by and a lot of the "yo-me" and "gimme" people that are pandered to with gifts given by the elected so they can harvest their votes every couple years to hold their power.
They surely won't vote their meal tickets away in Chi.
Even Al Capone opened up soup kitchens for his masquerade party. They don't call it Crook County for nothing!
 
Was born in a Italian neighborhood of Chicago,the last 30 yrs I have lived in a Suburb 20 miles west of the city. This state is one of the worst,at one point if you lived in Chicago you could not own a hand gun. They tore down all the projects in the city. That was going to make it all better just like our strict gun laws. We can all see how that all worked out,also now in the suburbs we have a ton of the people from the projects living out this way. I can't wait to get out of this state.

The current Mayor is nothing but a Sheeny...In the interest of not wanting to offend I will leave that one to your individual thoughts...that along with his Brother the Obamacare Doc...are Traitors and sick FOOKS!!! My advise for what it is worth is get the Hell outta there and got to a free State and not there. I am getting out of Commifornia because of the exact same types of BS ways of Government. The bad thing is that those fools quite often (as is the case in North Carolina) ruin their state then move to a neighboring state and try to do it again. To stupid to realize that it was their policies that created the mess

1/2 or more of our population is from somewhere else
like Chicago & they bitch & moan about how bad California is,
when it's mostly all because the "damn transplants, from elsewhere"
that moved here, than want to make it like their ol' cesspool,
that have ruined it, for all US natives...

But than a bunch of them, they move to
a neighboring state like Nevada, to like Reno or Las Vegas areas,
that's Liberal too, but bitch & moan how Liberal Calif. is...

I hate what's happened to my state,
I hate the damn transplants mostly, they ruined it...
It use to be the best place to live, not anymore...

It's not just Chicago. Practically every major US city that's a shithole now has been ran into the ground by Democrats and liberals. It's what they do...destroy everything around them then move on and "infect" some other part of the country. I live in North Carolina and see this every day...transplants from liberal states moving in and ruining my state. Our good governor, Pat McCrory, is in a vote recount trying to hold on to the governorship from a shithead liberal all because our Republican legislature passed House Bill 2 that requires boys to go to men's restrooms and girls to go to women's restrooms. Go figure. Insanity.

Yes, I understand what constitutes a "Sanctuary City". My point is a city with the highest murder rate in the nation would hardly be a reasonable sanctuary for anyone or for any reason.
