So what is prison these days?
Is it a gov. rehab institution? --Is it a second home to leave to make way in the world?

I say NOT-- It is just what it is. PRISON.

Let's cut through all the crap. If you **** up you go to a time out you will -never- like.
The whole (and simple) idea of prison is to make safe and protect the group from those that attack us in many ways.
Those that consider the odds when they attack the whole need to know the final answer of risk they take.
That simple idea of -and fear of- being in prison should have it's just and proper deterrent value.

When I was with the St. Mary's Sheriff's Office after the ADA was passed, we were told we could no longer ask perspective deputies if they had any addictions to illegal drugs or alcohol as those were considered "disabilities".

I had a severe alcoholic problem friend ( now dead) who was drawing a disability check from the federal government. Sad.............................MO

I stopped smoking July 10 1984, but struggled with booze/beers my whole life, made it tough at work and domestic life. I'm clean and sober now but wish I hung with a different clik back then. I guess some of us live through it at some point.

When the judge decides sentencing he has options and if the offender agrees to court mandated rehabilitation to reduce the sentence, I would agree to these terms.

1-Ten days to detox under a health care supervisor with access to a Doctor to reduce chance of death.

2-Proof of NA or AA meetings and submitting to random drug testing, failure would start original sentence.

I've seen this work for those who want it, the others that say they do just to reduce their sentence and are found using, I have little sympathy for. My opinion as a recovering alcoholic who has worked with addicts/alcoholics.

Just hang in there gentlemen. With enough time and patience, there will be no crime or criminal activity left on the continent....heck the whole world. The libs are working very hard on this problem. It is taking some serious effort, but they are doing their best to make an excuse for everything out there. We all know that rapists are innocent, "it was the way she was dressed" (constant hard on disorder). Theft? "Hell, they didn't need all that stuff anyway, they had too much" (gotta have it disorder). "It's the bar tender's fault. he served me" (poor judgment disorder).
It will be a while yet, but if they have their way, we will all be free to do whatever the hell we want to with no personal responsibility or consequence for our actions!
