My first car to run without a choke was a 66 Mustang Fastback 289 and used the stock factory point setup with a 600 Holley DP, headers and Torker intake. Other than that, it was stock. Just about all of the rest were Mopars using the factory stock ignition, points and electronic. Granted, most of my cars that had a choke were a bit easier to start when cold out but not having one wasn't a big deal either. Even my drag car which ran two Holley 750 Holley DP TR carbs started up easily with the MP electronic setup.
On a side note, the regulator on my 95 Dakota is shot and it lets the fuel drain back to the tank and it's a pita to start up cold or hot until I get fuel back up to the fuel rail. Either I drop the tank or pull the bed for access to the tank to replace it (the reg is part of the pump) or keep on priming it by manually closing the under hood relay or....cycle the key. Two turns will run the pump twice then I have to wait a bit for that to work another two times and it usually starts up. If I'm in a quiet area, I can hear when the pump loads up if I do the relay trick under the hood. I figure one of these days the original pump will crap out and I'll have to do something then lol
