Christmas: What decade was better?

There used to be a lot of toys for small children that made loud noises. We woke our parents up early, unintentionally, by playing with the See-n-Say toys from Santa. You'd set the dial on the animal you wanted to hear and pull the string. "The cow goes, Mooo."

It had to be super annoying for Mom and Dad.

I got my daughter a Cricket talking doll in the 80s. That was a big mistake. I was glad when the batteries died. Uncle Bill said it was demon possessed. She would say something when someone got close to her.

Homemade fudge and peanut brittle. Mom could have been rich if she'd have started a candy business or a bakery. That woman could cook!

For me, 50's and 60's . Funny. I grew up barely above poverty level in Brooklyn. I got ONE gift for Christmas, maybe a couple other small gifts. And it made me the happiest kid on earth.

When I was a kid growing up my Parents would do EVERYTHING while we slept Christmas evening after having a huge meal. They would bring in the tree, decorate it and put out all the presents till I was about 6-7 years old. We had a large house with cathedral ceilings in our living room with sky lights across the top. I think it was about 13-14ft high there so they had typically bought 11-12ft Fraser firs... I remember when I was older my Parents took my 77 step side Power Wagon down into Delaware because they were the only place that had those trees over ten foot... I enjoy all Christmas's still but when Christmas was the best for me was when I was young and then when my kids were young.

1960s, Helping decorate the tree, stringing popcorn on a string , going to our grandparents homes ,Christmas eve services.
Dad and mom never were wealthy but allways made sure we had a decent Christmas.
Then I have to vote again for the late 70s /early 80s when my wife and I got to do the same for our kids.
Good memories .

60’s the best era. Take me back just for an hour. My Grandparents, the aroma from the kitchen. Never duplicated.
The times may make a difference, but it's those that are no longer here that changed things the most. Adding loved ones is great and exciting, but subtracting is a sad fact of life. @Dennis H is right, never duplicated! Take me back for just an hour and everything I have is yours.

Me 60's & 70's (until about 1973) I was born in 1959
(parents divorced in 1962, I was 18 months old, I was the 3rd kid two older sisters)
always going to 4-6-8 different houses every
Christmas Eve & during the day was with 2 or 4 grandparents,
Evening was at the Aunt's, (2 different houses)
Christmas Day, was mom's & dad's (2 different houses)
& 2 different churches/masses too, it was so different really
Grandma's (or Aunt's) on both sides, ran the shows, maternal & paternal,
real mother's/step dad & step mother's/real dad, & their parents or sisters
Christmas morning was at home, then travel again...

My favorite were going to my Uncle Tink & Aunt Anne's place, in Bethal Island
1,000+ acre ranch on the delta

I loved it, all were sort of close all within like 50-ish miles circumference,
Concord/Pleasant Hill, El Cerrito, Albany/Berkeley, Antioch, Danville, Bethal Island
until we were older, I was like 14
my dad (sperm donor) moved to Garden Valley, with his then 3rd wife
& her 4 kids, 2 boys & 2 adopted girls, who I lived with during HS
on a 165 acre ranch 125+ miles east, of Concord, up in El Dorado Co.
That made Christmas's way different, never was the same after that...

Hot Wheels, new bikes, new slot cars/tracks, models, Tonkas, clothes
new hand me down mini-bikes or go-carts from an older cousin Joe,
when he grew out of them
& all kinds of treats, grandma's/aunt's were always baking
always great fully decked out trees, fun times, with full houses with close families
