Putting a new T5 in my neighbors Mustang. I know... Anyhow, he says the clutch is new and I believe it is. But since his cable was stretched out and it would never fully engage the clutch I told him he would most likely need to replace it. Well I took it all apart and here are some pictures of the Flywheel and Pressure plate. Opinions.... Replace or use it...

Replace the clutch and pressure plate, have the flywheel surfaced. Replace flywheel if any cracks show.

I am taking the flywheel to get it resurfaced this morning.. And I agree with Richard lol.

Your dilemma comes down to the age old question; time and/or cash. If you wish to get more use from the parts you have now, knowing they will wear with use, stick em back in, knowing you or somebody WILL replace them in the future. How soon, depends on how hard you run them. If you have the time and resources to easily replace, run em. If on the other hand, you want to get the most miles behind you before this job HAS to be done again, chunk your used parts and replace with new stuff. For me, I have tools and equipment to do these things whereas other folks have to pay someone to do the job and if thats so, its prolly cheaper to go with new stuff NOW.

I'm doing the clutch job also did timing chain and water pump. Now the trans and rack and pinion. But here is the kicker after he spent all this money on the driving issues he still has lifters that are making a racket after the engine is shut down. I'm pretty sure new lifters are in the future. My Dakota R/T had the same lifter noise after you shut down the engine.. I guess they lose their prime and leak down.

Are you talking about lifter noise when restarting once it sits for a day? My experience with the 3.9, 5.2 is if I start them up and move one out of the garage, then start up again hours later, the next time to start them they will have lifter noise.

No after running the car for a bit you turn off the engine and you can hear the lifters clicking for 10 minutes.. Its weird.

That's a 1st for me lol. What oil is being used? Mine do much better with 15-40 and Rotella if that makes a difference.

Here this is a shitty video but this was my Dakota .
Did they tick again after shutting it off. Was hoping to hear it again after the vid ended. What oil do you use? Man, that's strange lol

They did it every time you ran the engine and shut it down. Its the only time I have ever heard of this issue until this mustang is doing the exact same thing.

I have another video I can upload I think shows it doing the same thing.. I cant remember what oil I used in the truck but truth be told it was probably Castrol GTX

It sounds like the lifters are getting stuck in the lifter bores.
Honestly never heard that noise - ever.

Is the oil getting up to the rockers OK?
The engine seems to run fine when you start it.

Sounds more like demonic possession to me. :)
Actually, I'm hearing a lot more thermal expansion of metal than anything else...

I no longer have that truck.. But yes it ran fine and not a tap at all when driving it. It only made that noise when you shut down the engine. This mustang I'm working on has the same noise.

I've heard lots of noises from thermal expansion on engines before and even on mine but never like that lol. That's kinda nuts!

That is crazy for sure - almost like electronic servos are working things even with the engine shut off??
