Hey guys,

So I've got my two steering column bearings replaced, the upper and the lower, but I have a problem where the automatic trans column shifter is still loose. It's been that way since I got the car a year ago, but now I've got it in the shop for something else and my mechanic says he took apart the steering column and there's a bushing in there that needs replaced. He says he doesn't know where to get one and is not even sure what it's called.

Does anyone know the name of this bushing or bearing that I need and where to get one? I previously ordered both steering column bearings I thought I needed from Jim's auto parts. I can't find something that mentions a bushing or bearing that affects the column shifter.

Thanks!

This is an old post I had with zero replies, but guess what? I had my car into my mechanic to fix something else and he noticed my loose shifter issue and fixed it! Want to know how? With a 50 cent cotter pin replacement! Under the hood where the shifter linkage hooks up, the cotter pin was loose. He had a larger sized one in his toolbox. He changed it out and BAMM! The shifter now has positive engagement with no looseness or slipping in between gears. I would not have thought that the fix was under the hood instead of inside the steering column in the car.
