Are cometic head gaskets for a 426 ( 5 layer )installed as is ? No spray sealers or silicone in any common leak areas?

No sealer = read their instructions.

I install dry. I only use spray sealer when re-using them. Also make sure to have the correct deck finish surface of 50 RA (roughness average) or finer, is recommended for a proper gasket seal. Anything rougher may conflict with the gasket design.

Block has never been decked. Is the factory surface adequate?

Is there a suggested upper CR on Cometic head gaskets?

16:1? Whatever the max is I guess.

Make sre the block and heads clear the rivets. If not a little clearance grind will fix it. I've used them dry. Reused them with copper spray up to 3 times. This was at 15-1 compresiion. Surface of the head and block should be very smooth.

Yup, the 'sealer' is the coating on the gasket.....
