A local tool shop is recommending a Saylor Baell compressor; 5 hp, 80 gallon (SAY-VT-735-80): $2,714.00 with tax.

Superbee you know your stuff!Having worn out a few blasting cabinets myself, its an easy decision.
First read your blast cabinet and see its needs, TP tools which is IMO about the best bang for your buck unless you are making your own cabinet. With their s35 gun at 75 psi its nice to have a real 20 cfm. They also have a low volume gun that I have never used but can use a bit less air..
Budget is another real consideration, as well as your power supply (most residential systems will be 7.5hp single phase unless you go to a duplex system, not many 10hp single phase single pump units out there), and space..
As far as storage goes, with blasting, it may as well not have a tank, I have a 200 ga storage tank and our compressor is mounted on a 90 ga tank and if I am blasting the pump only shuts off when I stop and as soon as I start blasting again, so does the pump... Storage is good for airing up tires if you don't want to hear the pump start and stop, you run a DA, Sand blast gun, any impact tool worth its weight, etc and your storage is good for about 13 seconds...
If your budget allows and you want to buy the last compressor you will ever buy for your home get the champion http://www.ebay.com/itm/BEST-CHAMPI...093845?hash=item43e7ff8e55:g:98oAAOSwwPhWjscm
And if you are blasting pretty regular invest in a refrigerated air dryer, Ingersoll rand 20% oversized is a good choice, tooltopia has good prices on them...
Also harbor freight sells the best media recovery system I ever used, and I have tried many. http://www.harborfreight.com/blast-cabinet-reclaimer-kit-60739.html
and one more item worth mentioning for blasting is the tp tools shaker, I have 2 of them mounted to my cabinet wired to a switch on my gun (foot operated gun with electric switch for shaker)... Really nice since my cabinet is huge and hard to shake myself, my old snap on cabinet I would just give a few belly bangs and it would drop the media to the pickup, this cabinet is too large for that...
hope this info helps, I take my blasting seriously, I used to dread doing it, now that I use a good compressor, an air dryer, shakers, etc, its not bad at all...
lol, thanks snake, I fought an undersized cabinet with a insufficient untreated air source for too long, I was so "green" at one time I actually fed my cabinet with the same line I fed air tools with after the oiler and all, lol... Needless to say an auto oiler and a sb cabinet is not a good mix...Superbee you know your stuff!
TP Tools buys their blast material from ASCO a big nation wide distributor.lol, thanks snake, I fought an undersized cabinet with a insufficient untreated air source for too long, I was so "green" at one time I actually fed my cabinet with the same line I fed air tools with after the oiler and all, lol... I will give credit to TP Tools, some of the best prices on media, and they sell real nice stuff, plus the guys are smarter than the local compressor shops that I used to deal with...
Its not that I do a lot of blasting, its that I do it all at once, so I will strip a car, and run it in batches until its done, I will stand at that machine for 4-6 hours at a time, so being frustrated waiting for air, or banging the machine because I noticed I am just air washing the parts, tends to wear out my patience for the "hobby" lol... I have to say out of all the tools I have ever purchased my cabinet and air system is hands down the best, and I have 2 post lifts, rotisseries, etc... When it comes to restoring cars, blast cabinet and a good air system is key...
I noticed the op has already bought a compressor, SB is a great brand, it will last you a life time, but give a long hard look at a refrigerated air dryer, your tools will appreciate it as will your media..
I like their speed bead, its fast and I can't really tell the difference between the finished product left vs what glass leaves, except this cuts much faster, has very little dust, and lasts a long time...TP Tools buys their blast material from ASCO a big nation wide distributor.
