I have a rebuilt 318, whiplash cam, headers, 904 automatic, curved Petronix dist and 3.23 sure grip spinning 245/60-15's in a 67 satellite.
Which converter stall speed would you recommend ?

Hughes says 1800 to 2200 (stock to mild)
Curious what others run.

converter should be matched to recommended cam spec.

Spend a little more and get one custom built for your combo. It makes a huge difference in how the convertor is set up. If it's loose (like a hughes) I would run a max stall of 2500. If it's custom built tight.. perhaps 3500. You can do better then Hughes, PTC may even be cheaper the hughes.

Look at FTI, i went with their 3200 9.5" and it's pretty tight so you don't really notice much when driving normally. BUT.. my 318 is in front of 4.30s with 30" tires... so different setup.

Damn.. price has come down quite a bit since i bought it too :(

Contact a couple of performance converter builders and see what they say. No offence to anyone, but just because the Super Whiz Bang 3500 works like a charm in my car, doesn't mean it's right for you, unless both vehicles are identical in all aspects. Something else to keep in mind, don't let a low price be your only guide. I've seen enough inexpensive converters apart to say you only get what you pay for.
