Now I have more questions... Does that Dana unit go in as a direct swap considering I have an 8 3/4?

You wont be able to use that.

You wont be able to use that.

Could you elaborate because I was just told the opposite.

"basically all you have to swap is your ring gear n bearings n adjust it to fit if you want to run the 3.23 ratio"

I had a long conversation with CHARGERSTEVEN last night the owner of the unit and he is certain the swap is possible and plans on using another Dana he has in a similar application. I'm going to be looking at the unit Friday

Well I stand corrected, if he said you could use it. I was under the impression that nothing swapped out from Dana to 8-3/4, but never having owned a Dana, I am obviously mistaken.

Actually it's still up in the air lol... I actually thought the same as you and Now we're both not sure! Anyone with any knowledge of this swap it would be great to have your input

Thankyou,

Mike

UPDATE: We got our answer HT413 you are correct it won't work unless we have a 9 3/4 Dana rear end

Update to my update... I now know that I have a 742 unit. The guy doing the work on my car right now says he can get the pro series auburn position for it which he says is a good setup for $675... How does this stack up against what Dr. Diff is offering?

Update: Got in touch with Dr. Diff today and went with the complete 489 Case with Eaton True Trac 3:55 ratio same as Grabinov

Thanks again everyone for your help and I promise not to use the "P Word" again

Mike

Clad you finally made a desision at least it will be go to go in the spring

A Dana 60 carrier unit (the SureGrip unit or posi) will NOT fit into an 8 3/4. The Dana 60 carrier is much bigger and 'carries' a larger diameter ring gear. Here is a pic of a side view...the 60 is on the left. Moot point now but at least you'll know the difference between them.
