Cordoba sells for almost 40K at Mecum

First drove my 76 in 1981 while on holiday in the U.S. Original owner gave it to me in 2009 and shipped to Australia, great ol cruiser, specially on our roads over here. If I feel a need for speed I use the 1970 VF Valiant 770 ( Mainly Dodge Dart )

I taped all of it and FF watched the whole thing. Honestly, I'm shocked at some of the high prices. When it was on a week ago, it seemed that some of the car prices were a bit weak from where they have been. However, just when I thought the collector car market was cooling off, I was proven wrong this weekend. It still goes to show that there are plenty of high rollers out there.

Here's the results on all the Mopars .....

I thought we'd talked about this one a couple years ago when it sold for $24,000 on BAT but can't find it now.
I remember a thread on it where everyone was amazed what a Cordoba sold for, maybe it was in a different site.
Well it sold for over 50% more than that at Mecum Saturday.

A low mile Mirada sold for just shy of $30K shortly after the Cordoba Saturday
Strange days in the motorcycle auction world as well. Las Vegas Mecum Jan 30 2025 - Lot #T15, a motorcycle equivalent of the Cordoba, the mighty Yamaha Radian, 1986 vintage, went for (hold on to your wallets, kids) $33,000!!! I don't care what shape it is in or whose collection it came from, I wouldn't pay $33K for a Radian even if there were $32,000 taped up under the seat.

I can see prices for these late B's bringing good money if its been well cared all these years. If you wanted one..its not going to be a easy task to find a nice one. Also, the dollar doesn't buy what it once did! There is really not much for replacement parts that I have seen, and to restore one the prices will have to go much higher. This era of cars did not fair well outside. At least the ones we kept around did not, that might be partially do to the one we kept had T tops or a sunroof. A family friend talked my Dad in to buying a few saying they were going to become collectible. That was back in the late 80s. We kept a 78 magnum T top, 79 magnum gt t top, 79 300 t top, 78 magnum moon roof triple black. They were kept outside and although fairly rare..it would be a losing proposition to restore any of them, which is sad. But is the reality.

Nice ones certainly are hard to find. I was keeping my eyes peeled for quite a while for a decent Cordoba or Magnum T top before I got the lead on the Magnum I bought in '22. I was surprised at how few Cordobas we see advertised given how Chrysler sold a bunch of them. In fact, the only variation we seem to see advertised on a regular basis are '79 300's which is odd, seeing how it was a limited production one year only car. I guess the demographic that bought them back in the day tended to take better care of them then the people buying Cordobas and Magnums.
The parts situation is pretty bleak, and their values not high enough to justify trying to restore an example not already complete and solid, just needing a refresh like new paint and trim refurbishing type work. So very few will get restored, just leaving the small numbers of these cars still remaining in excellent condition for collectors to chase after if they want to find one.
I'm quite pleased I was able to find a good one, I've had a blast with mine taking it to a lot of shows and cruise nights. And it always gets a lot of interest from people at car events.

Hey …. It must be the RICH CORINTHIAN LEATHER!!!

In the original commercial, he said soft Corinthian leather. In later ads, he did say rich Corinthian leather (if you look lower down in the page, it shows the add for the downsized Cordoba, and he does say it there), and may have said fine Corinthian leather in other ads (I don't know that I have seen all the Cordoba ads hat Ricardo Montalban did). The Corinthian leather was a real leather, made in a tannery in New Jersey. I don't remember exactly if the tannery itself was called the Corinthian Tannery, or if the tannery itself had a line of leather products called Corinthian leather.
