Correct Shift Cables for 1965 727??

My 727 trans shift and park cables on my 1964 Dodge Polara 500 are leaking bad, so I pulled them. I have new ones on order, but I need to confirm with the seller what type ends and length I have. The old ones measured 42" (shift cable) and 56-3/4" (park cable). The car is a center console (floor) shifter. The 727 is supposed to be a 1965 slip yoke. I think it looks like the correct cable adapter in the trans for a floor shift. Does the shift cable end look correct? I was checking the Mopar Push-button transmission tech tips page on the 1962 to 1965 mopar site and was wondering if my lock spring groove is wide enough for a console shift. Also, look what I found at the bottom of the pan! Trans seemed to work fine before I took it offline to fix leaks. Rebuild or just run it? Thanks!

Have you tried just replacing the O-rings on the shift cable ends ? Old ones may have shrunk over time and no longer seal properly.
That gunk in the pan tells something isn't right. If you have the coin and plan on keeping the car I would have it rebuilt and get a new converter while its out.

Have you tried just replacing the O-rings on the shift cable ends ? Old ones may have shrunk over time and no longer seal properly.
That gunk in the pan tells something isn't right. If you have the coin and plan on keeping the car I would have it rebuilt and get a new converter while its out.

Haven't done anything yet. The sheaths on the cables are kinda messed up. Maybe shrink tube them and new o-rings. I'll keep them as back ups.

Dang, I was afraid of that with the trans. I'll talk to my local trans guy Friday.

Easy fix. Slide ES 2 shrink tubing (has glue inside) over the crimped ends/damaged outer areas. Heat it up, leaks will be gone. Let me know if you need some. Dry as a bone. Debris doesn't look that abnormal. How many miles?

Dang, I knew I should've waited before ordering new cables! I'll shoot you a PM.

Not sure how many miles on the trans. Bought the car a couple of months ago. Based on the paint wearing off the trans, I'd say it's been awhile. I took the pan over to Brown's Transmissions here in Ventura and spoke with Kenny "Racer" Brown about it. He asked the same question and said the same thing. He suggested just changing the filter, adjusting the bands, refill, and check again in about 10k mi.

I'll have to keep this is mind. Tranny fluid is leaking from my 65 but I haven't look into it yet. Maybe I'll be lucky and have the same problem. Thanks.

DVW, SOoo timely! Thank you. Just pulled the pan on our N/SS 63 Plymouth to get it sealed for this Sunday at Atco, NJ. I was planning to silicone mine, but the shrink wrap is a great idea. Is the shrink wrap available at a hardware store? Same as electrical stuff? Thanks again.

I use the electrical stuff with the glue inside. If you need it quick try electrical supply house. I misspoke earlier, use ES-3 not ES-2 (larger diameter. Dont forget to check the cable O-Ring condition as well.

Anyone know the o ring sizes for the shift and speedo cables? I installed es-3 tubes over the shift cable but it is leaking from the cable adjuster area too and seems to be also leaking from some of the pan bolts.
