I'll be restoring and reinstalling my license plate light assembly soon and I'm confused which way to reinstall the rectangular retainer. In the pics, I assume the lens is installed with the bottom silver-painted half downward.

In the pics, I think I have the housing and lens mounted the correct way, with the part numbers being upright, but I can see the metal retainer can be mounted 4 different ways.

Do I reinstall it on the top or bottom of the lens? Then, because the retainer has a bend to it, do I install it with the bend downward or upward?

Such a simple thing and of course I didn't take pics of it before removal.

Question: As the license plate light and reverse lights are single-wire lights, how are these housings grounded? Through the screw holes where they bolt to the bumper and rear valance?
