Crane Adjustable Rockers/Solid Pushrods/Hyd. Cam-Will It Work?

Thanks,CrankyI was wondering if it was a clearance issue or internal lifter issues. I'll do my best to keep my foot out of it-tough to do considering that the lil' 413 moves the car around quite well. And it's Back To The Bricks week. Which means the occasional moments of "unintended intentional acceleration". OK,I'll behave...

If I have to,I'll seriously consider a new cam and lifters. Hadn't really planned on it for this mill;it's kind of tired anyway, with a bit of blowby. Then again,if I replace the cam and lifters and the lower end doesn't go boom,I could possibly make it live another season(next year) and take more time doing the 440 right. Hmmm...

Food for thought: There's a cam on the classifieds-TRW BB Centerline CamShaft Splitlift 443 intake .465 exhaust. Part #TP203-that seems like it might be a good grind for this motor. The heads on there now are the original 2.08/1.60 valve size pieces(516's),I'm running a Holley 750,Edelbrock Performer 440 intake, and 1-3/4" headers with full (2") exhaust). Could be fun;any thoughts out there?

Get in touch with Chuck Millen at Best Machine. He built my engine (535 flywheel h.p.) with Crane roller rockers, hydraulic lifters, Straightline custom grind cam and custom pushrods. After break-in and a final valve-lash adjustment, I've driven it trouble-free for two years. He'll probably pass on some great advice at N/C.

That cam should do just fine.

Rocker noise

I also have rocker noise in my all fresh 440 just as you describe. The lifter preload is too soft so you need adjustable rockers. I was told by a friend of mine who is a well known mopar engine builder to use the ductile rockers like you have. He said not to use roller rockers with this problem as it will actually make the noise worse. If you go a different route let me know what you want for those rockers...will ya?
