Good Evening, I have a 1966 Dodge Charger 383 4barrel. One day I was driving it and the alternator went out. I drove it back home and parked it in the shop. I then replaced the alternator and I tried starting it again but now it doesn’t want to start. The engine will crank but I’m pretty sure there is no spark. I then replaced the ignition coil but it still isn’t starting. Anyone have any tips or had a same situation?

1. Make sure you don’t have spark by disconnecting one plug wire, put an extra plug in it, ground the threads of the plug to a good bolt (eg alternator bracket) & have a buddy crank it over to check for spark
2. Test for continuity (ohms) across your ballast resistor with the wires going to it unplugged. Replace if you don’t get an ohms reading

Pour some gas it carb and see if it fires. It comes down to gas, spark and air.

Try what PurpleBeater says. Would be helpful if you would tell us if you have an original points ignition system or electronic ignition system as well as what brand / type if electronic ignition. Replacing an alternator should not cause a problem with the ignition system.
