Crankcase ventilation

I'm going to use a pcv on one valve cover and plug on the other for inspections - then just go back to PCV + breather after inspection. Bigman - I love your engine bay. Really clean. I think I'm going to steal some ideas from you. :)

Help your self! :)

This is how I bought it.

X2...Plugging one valve cover is not a "closed loop" system. Even if you have to fab a connection on the underside of the air filter housing, you'll be good to go. The purpose of the connection to the air cleaner housing is to filter the air being drawn into the crankcase by the PCV valve and reduce vapor that might escape into the atmosphere from the crankcase when the motor shuts down. Not a bad thing.
That filter might even have a 'knockout' on the base just for that connection. If not, it's easy to make one by drilling a hole (inside the actual filter ring), tapping it for an 1/8" X 3/8" brass hose barb and connecting 3/8" hose between it and your valve cover connection (they also make those in push-in style). Make sure there are baffles inside the covers so that oil won't get drawn into the system, on both covers.

Talked to the inspection people again and they agreed that a PCV to carburetor on passenger side and plugged drivers side cover would be sufficient.... Cross your fingers :)

Again: THE PCV is something I'm going to keep but do it correctly with a catch can - but it's the breather on the other cover I'm a bit reluctant to change. Living in sweden - we don't have a lot of products for these cars - but a s*itload of things for volvo lol.

Just a warning. If you do that (plug one valve cover vent) you'll be creating a vacuum in the crankcase that MAY play havoc with your intake, valve cover, oil pan and timing gaskets. Slight chance, but never-the-less a chance...just trying to save you some grief.

I'm about to order something right now

I have the pcv and the hosing to connect it to the carb. Should I order a plug or another PCV and just splice the 3/8 hose on the backside going into the drivers side cover? A breather is what I would run for every day driving, but I need to pass inspections.

So: order plug or order another PCV?
