Crower cam

Back in 68 I installed a crower monarch cam and lifters in a 67 gtx 440 stock rockers and push rods no problem and no noise good duration tans great , blueprint at home no problem,would scream , today my 440 has the best of everything a pro builder could put in it and it sounds like crap idling with valve train noise oh and I know about the modern grinding and the fast ramps but what about th

Crower monach is pretty mild
what now what rockers and springs
did you degree it in?
whats your cranking compression
any idea what pistons and heads
ie a low or high compresson 440?
lots of things can make them run rough
retarded, timing, too big, etc

I had a Crowler Monarch back in the day in a 383. IIRC 460 lift 280 duration.

Is this a newly built engine? Did it run right before and now it's getting noisy?

Unfortunately kept it a few years and sold it for the children’s needs , so now since 2016 I’m building another to enjoy , and just lack carpets and seat covers and will be complete, 440 has the best of everything and as a builder you know I’ve touched every part of car!

Aaahhhh yes...... the Monarch 280H.
My first cam purchase..... 1981.
I didn’t know anything about anything back then......But that was a nice little cam.

I took it out a few years later and put in a Racer Brown ssh-44.
Reused the 280-H in a re-ringed 400 years later.

If the OP isn’t happy with the latest greatest fast rate lobes....... I’m sure Crower could still supply you with a Monarch.
I think there were at least two..... the 280 like I had, and I think something like a 300 as well.

Sure you can get a Monarch or a Hauler
but All the crower's I've used have been custom (including reverse rotation Corvair- be sure and you limit your distributor thrust- ask me how I know)
but get a grip 191.06 actually in another place only 168 Power Beast
NT/EXH -288 / 298 Dur @ .050” Lift: 214°/224° RR: 1.5/1.5 Gross Lift: .444”/.467” LSA: 112°
or get the famous 204-214 in a Crower box "Torque Beast"
INT/EXH - 278 / 288 Dur @ .050” Lift: 204°/214° RR: 1.5/1.5 Gross Lift: .422”/.444” LSA: 112° RPM: 1500 to 4250 Redline: 4750
Crower has lots of great lobes but go custom

67 440hp .30over KB pistons block honed ,balanced ,line honed bottom ,magnafluxed , reworked rods ,all arb studs ,block decked, heads 915’s pocket port ,stainless swirl valves , Comp xe275h flat , Comp adjustable rockers , 25 lbs oil pressure idle hot , cc’d 83 and the problem is every time engine cool over night lifters rattle like crazy for a short few minutes when oil pressure pops right up ,what’s your thoughts? VR-1 10w30

My thoughts??

Lifters bleeding down overnight has nothing to do with the “cam” per se.
It’s the internal clearances of the lifters(along with higher spring loads) allowing that to happen.

If you’re running the std lifters, I’d try running the preload down to 1-1/2 turns from zero to see if it improved that situation any.

What you’re experiencing isn’t that uncommon with today’s hyd lifters.

If you’re still not happy with it, try some Hylift Johnson “slow bleed” lifters.
