The combined Road Runner/GTX package started in 1972 and continued until 1974. If you wanted a 440 in a 72 to 74 Plymouth B body car,you would have had to order the GTX option package. My friend owns this 72 Plymouth Road Runner GTX U code car.
Nice find.. I cant tell the year from the angle, is it a GTX?How about a roached Petty Blue Road Runner with a sunroof?
Doesn't answer your question, but it's one for a RR on the total production.
Friend's car, I took this pic.

I'd have to double check on the year, but it is a Road Runner, Petty Blue, sunroof, small block, auto.I cant tell the year from the angle, is it a GTX?
I have a 1973 roadrunner GTX rm21u code car sunroof, powerwindows, tach, AM/FM radio, i see your in florida, i live in ormond beach.Do you know of a 1973 GTX sun roof car? The mopar sun roof registry shows 2 or possibly 3 and I see no documentation of a break down between a road runner and a GTX. I realize they are pretty rare but I'm just curious if anyone knows how rare?
No, if the VIN had a U then yes. Sunroof rare thou. Transplanted motor in my eyes doesn’t qualify for a 440 GTX.I have a 74 RR sunroof car that originally had a 318. It now has a 440, so do have a 74 GTX Sunroof car? If so it’s the only one ever made.
I was joking. The GTX option was available in 74. You could still order the car with a 440 but only with an automatic transmission and not a 4 speed manual. The sales brochure also indicates that you could still get a 440 with a 3 speed manual. I am not sure if that is correct or not. You could get the 400 with a 4 speed manual though for sure. That would be a cool car to find. I was joking as to my 74 has a 440 4 speed which meets the definition a GTX car but wasn't offered that year. No, if the VIN had a U then yes. Sunroof rare thou. And a model name change, '72 through '74, There was no "GTX option" or package, its an engine option, if you ordered a 440 (E86), it triggered a model rename from Road Runner to Road Runner GTX included the additional badging. No such thing as a RS GTX submodel after 1972.
No such thing as a GTX package/option in 73 or 74. There is no box on the order form that says 'check here for a GTX option/package'.
IF you ordered the 440 in a 73 or 74 Road Runner you got a GTX badge. Not a package. Just a badge.
It’s an engine option and badge included starting in 72No such thing as a RS GTX submodel after 1971.
