The engine builder of my 69 Chargers 383 didn't install spark plug brackets or heat shields. I am wondering if I can remove a head bolt without unsealing the head. Do I need to remove the heads to get these installed or can I short cut it?

I believe if you crack a head bolt loose you will more than likely lose antifreeze. I would not suggest it. Maybe take it back to the engine builder that way its on him.

Don't you mean valve cover bolt? You can remove that no problem.

Just make it quick and have some thread sealant handy, not a big deal.

Typically the heat shields are connected to the front/rear end studs of the exhaust manifold.

They are held by the head bolts

Personally I wouldn't (and didn't) put them back on

Anybody have a completed picture of this? Because I don't believe I've ever seen anything held on by head bolts (other than the head). How would you get a good seal on the head gasket if something was running under or over it?

Sure plenty of cars used the under head bolt heat shields for the plug wires.

Granted, I am viewing from my phone, but those appear to be attached by exhaust manifold bolts, not head bolts.

You would be incorrect for some and correct for others.

Once you are around Mopars long enough youll get the hang of it brother.
