I just got my dash frame painted to match my red interior on my car but it turned out too glossy and im worried about the glare in the winshield from the sun. I tried flattening clear and it did nothing to the finish. Is there anything i can do to get rid of the gloss and flatten the paint out

Was the level of gloss discussed with the painter prior to painting? Maybe you could wet sand with 1,000 grit? I would discuss your options with the painter.

Told them i wanted it really flat. They matched it to a colour sample i gave them. They tried the flattening clear and it did nothing. Just wondering if their any options i can give to them

Clear on the dash, really??????

The dash paint should be a satin finish so it won't reflect. Try wetsanding with 1000 grit like Dako said.

Sounds like they delivered something other than what you requested. You should try the 1000 grit, and if it doesn't work, have them re-paint per your original instructions.

1000 grit will dull it but I doubt it will look really even. They should have never cleared the dash. When I got my dash paint he mixed it and then gave me a separate amount of "flattener" to add to the paint. (I have not tried yet so I can't tell you the results)

Gonna get them to repaint it. Kb67mopars right, probably wont look even. Thanks guys

Lesonal makes a nice matte clear. Some flatteners can alter the color. Maybe the stuff they used has too much sheen. You could wetsand it with 1000, give it one light-medium coat, let that flash for a half hour, then high pressure low volume dust coat it from over 18" away. It'll give it that factory suede finish. Every painter has their own technique. Let us know how it turns out. Goodluck!

I put base clear on all my dashes! I use full gloss or high glamour clears. That's just me though!! I have had only one car have a glare issue. Fixed it with a wool rubbing pad. Used a cutting compound with the wool pad! It cut the gloss just enough to take away the glare!!!

Thanks. The guys at the bodyshop found a matte clear. Almost looks like a paste. They're gonna see what they can do this week. I ll keep you guys posted

The bodyshop guys sprayed a matte clear on the dash and it turned out as flat as it can be. It even matches my interior colour better than the sample paint they sprayed on the dash before

Glad they resolved it for you.

What I have done is use lacquer and not sand or buff it after. For the MopPars with the suede finish, if you can't get the texture additive in the paint, I again used lacquer and laid the last coat on dry to simulate the texture. Came out very close to factory.

I used PPG lacquer for my 68 B body dash. The paint is available through TPC Global in Calif. I got the paint part number in the back of the 68 coronet / charger shop manual. The paint arrived and has the correct amount of flat and has the suede already in it. Look exactely like the orginal finish.......
