Defective NEW camshaft. Ever seen one like this?

The cam IS going back.
This car sat for 24 years before I bought it. The electrical system is untested. I do have a new gas tank, sending unit and fuel lines BUT the fresh start of a newly rebuilt engine always makes me nervous. Way back, I considered a roller cam for my other car just to ease my mind about cam and lifter failures but the cost always scared me off.

Dang that sucks. I would recommend sending it back and finding another bump stick. I have a used older purple shaft out of my 440 that I could part with if interested. I went with a bullet cam for my new build
What are the specs of that cam? I have another 440 that I may build just for who knows what...

Sorry, I meant the one that you took out.

I'll try and get you some info on the purple shaft. I liked it when it was in the car, had a nice lope to it. I'll get back to you with some pics and info.

My buddy has had 2 comp cam failures. Comp lifters also. 1 big block and 1 small block. I looked at the cams and both are like that. Comp won’t help him. Said that don’t matter and it was broken in wrong. Kim

I'll +1 on Hughes cams and lifters. Glad you're sending back that crap Comp cam.

I used a comp cam & lifters in the 440 for my cuda, about 13 years ago. I had pieces as big as match heads break off the lifters.

Comp cam are ****
They are living off a reputation they never had

Really sad... Comp was good stuff back in the 80's & 90's.... These days I lean toward Lunati but there are plenty of other good options.. I've run & had good luck with Crower, Crane, Bullet, Engle & Ultradyne, plus a few others including Comp back in the day... Never run Hughes but mostly I've heard good stuff other than when the guys from Moparts tried to put together an engine for an Enginemasters competition.... They lost 2-3 cams in a row.... They blamed Hughes, Hughes blamed them... I wasn't there so I don't know what to believe.... That was right about the time oil manufacturers took ZDDP out of oil so lots of cams were failing.... Hard to blame Hughes for that...

I used Hughes for the cam and valve train in the Coronet. Take a look at the lift rates vs. duration for their hyd FT's; they're as aggressive as Comp's hyd rollers. I asked Dave how they can build that much ramp rate into a hyd FT and his response was 'all we do is Mopars, and we do them better than everyone else'. Sold!

No numbers present that I can see. All the lobe and bearing surfaces are fine, no signs of ugliness. Lift is around .320, no idea what lobe separation or duration it has

The casting is terrible! All of those little sharps that snagged your cloth are eventually break off and
end up going through the oil pump, (Crunch) and getting stopped by the filter. Thanks for the heads-up!
I can scratch them off the lift of preferred vendors. Chinese junk!

They need to know that WE know that their stuff is junk, and we won't be buying ANY of their
stuff until they straighten out their manufacturing process.

If QC missed all those ragged edges, then what other machining operations/inspections were missed?

They don't seem to care. My machinist has called a few times and they didn't want to hear it. Never had that problem and your an idiot was pretty much their response.
Pretty much the same attitude and customer service, or lack of, as Indy Cylinder Head.

That should not be used. Sad to see such poor quality of that cam.

That is what I thought too. As the cam rotates, that edge would chew into the side of the lifter.

He is talking about the adjacent lifter.
