Just what the title says. When I sent my car out to be painted it was pretty clean, now it's a disaster. I knew it was going to happen.

What's the best product out there for sprucing up the engine bay area, not only this time but periodically before going to shows?

Thank's,
Joe

Find a Harley Davidson dealer near you. They have a product made just for cleaning up motorcycles without harsh detergents or high pressure washing.

Depends on what you need to clean up I guess. I just use a dry cloth on most everything and maybe some Armorall on rubber hoses - but I also don't have chrome stuff in my bay. I started with a clean and repainted engine bay and motor and just keep everything clean - continuously.

Give it a good washing with soap and water, blow it dry with compressed air. If it was just painted you will want to hold off on the silicone's and wax.

Adam the engine bay has been painted and clear coated for some time. Having the rest of the car painted is what messed it up from all the dust associated with being in a body shop for 5 months.

In general I have to figure out what to use to clean the whole car once I have it finished. Lew did say he would show me what to use. I think another problem I will have is our water here is very hard and I will probably be plagued with spots.

Thanks for the tip bluefury, I'll look into that product.

Stumper mine looked just like yours before going into the body shop. :icon_axe:

We use Maguiars final wipe down and hyper dressing.

I've had really good luck spraying down the whole engine bay with Purple Power, let it sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse it off with a hose. For the hard to reach areas, you can spray them and use a toothbrush or just a wet rag. To make everything shine, I've used both CD-2 engine detailer and the Meguiars tire gel (purple stuff).

If its just paint dust and sanding dust from the shop, then mild soap and water will do the job.

For hard water, I found that a cheap whole house water filter (micron not carbon) and some innovative hose clamps makes a great car-washing experience and lasts a long time. SHHH Ancient chinese secret.

For day-to-day showroom cleaning, i use a distilled water mist and microfiber towel. you will be suprised how well it works if the car is only a "little bit dirty".
