It is likely the older RB 383 engines from the late 50's (58/59) were red
The Road Runners where orange.

great info thanksQuick and dirty:
Chrysler used four different shades of orange.
The first is now known as race hemi orange. A very yellow orange, used on maxwedge 62-64, and 64/65 race hemi. Next is 66/67 street hemi orange, I think (think!) less red than the later hemi orange.
Next is what everyone calls hemi orange, actually later street hemi orange would be more acurate, used on hi perf 383 and 440 as well as street hemis, 69-71.
Then there's air cleaner orange, rumored to match fram air cleaner elements, used on random air cleaner lids, and sometimes aircleaner bodies.
If there were red 383s, they would be prior to 1962.
(Make sure the "red" 383 you're looking at isn't a 318 poly).
I never knew Superbirds came with a 383.I painted a matching number 383 in a 4 speed superbird the wrong orange
