Did it run 8s this time?

No way it'll see 8.50. Maybe an 8.8X in real good air. To be honest when I started this project it was going to be a 10.50 car. A friend had this short block that was passed on to me. It all started with that. It ran [email protected] on it's first pass in 2013. The car runs in Nostalgia Super Stock. 10 2022 NMCA Nostalgia Super Stock 1.1.docx
Started out at the 9.50 B/FX index, then went to the A/FX 9.25 Index. I've been trying to tweak our way into the AA/FX 9.00 index. The engine has been very reliable with the exception of last years mistake. So it has remained with the same basic components since 2013. Compression, heads and porting, cam and valve train, intake, headers, trans, have not been changed. Better shocks, 4.30 in place of the 4.10, converter, 4150 based carbs, crank scraper, air pan, 16v battery (instead of 2 12 volt), Carbon fiber hood. So the car is about 60lbs lighter, driver is about 15lbs heavier. We'll be at Columbus this weekend. Weather is projected to be in the mid 90's so it may have to be backed off to the 9.25 index. We'll see.

Good Luck this weekend.

Sorry didn't mean this build but the next build. Weather using the current block and internals or a new (spare) engine. What's the next thought 8.50 or 8.00 if the car is certified 7.50

Car is certed to 8.50. If I was to go quicker I'd build a light car. It's making north of 900hp all ready. the Motor is at it's at the limit of "low maintenance".

Never thought any 9 second much less 8 second would fall into a" low maintenance" category.

It's actually pretty good. I check Valve lash every 20-25 passes. It has a dipstick so oil level is constantly monitored. A Master Lube system pre-oils before every start-up. Plugs and oil go a year. Check bearings at 400 passes. Springs have been good to 300 passes, this time we'll go 400. Lifters have well over 500 passes and are still fine, that's why lash is monitored closely.

@dvm

congrats on the 8's !! what distributor r u running ? in a pic i saw it doesnt look like the usual MSD unit viewing from the top...seems if u r running locked timing it may not matter....thanks.

It's a 440 source with nothing but a cap and rotor. The shaft is welded solid. The electronics are a MSD crank trigger.

thanks, i took the cap off my msd billet dist and found corrosion everywhere, appx 2 years old ! the mag pick up was wasted, and they glue them in also ! i expected more from them than that..i run lock timing also so i think im going to throw in a tach drive DC aluminum housing unit with the slots locked and see how it works...

You guys talking distributors, and I know this is a long way from "locked" and I'm doing more street than strip driving...
BUT
So MUCH performance (if not "the big power" gains) clean, as good as it can get performance I believe is what the Progression Ignition system is going to deliver, better than any NON-EFI "computer" based system can deliver.
PERFECTION for any carburetor fed engine!
