Do Backlight Louvers Serve a Function?

Besides looking cool (to some of us) and making it more difficult to clean the glass, what purpose/advantage do the louvers serve? Thank you.

I mostly remember seeing them on that huge back window of 69-73 mustang fastback with the huge back window.
Less functional on your car than on a mustang.....

Yep, it's a Mustang thing. They look goofy on a Mopar. IMO

I have a Datsun 280zx, I’ve had the louvers on and off and back on.

1st, they look cool, probably would better on your car if you had cragars or slots.

2nd, yes it reduces interior heat
