DOGS

We had steps, I had one seat up so she could step to the floor, then a box outside the door about a foot down. She would not even get off the seat. And yes it was a struggle!

She wants to drive!
does a neighbor have a bunny or cat you can borrow?

you don't know what she has experienced. Maybe she fell out once when the door flew open on a corner. They get something in their head and it can be tough to overcome.

We have a cat. That's a whole different story. We had to drag her out and she definitely had a fear getting out. Once she was on the ground she was her old happy go lucky self.

Dobermans are smart and sensitive, double whammy.
I play chased my last dog up the basement stairs when he was a puppy, he never went in the basement again. I tried T-bone, chicken breast, bacon strips. He would let the food rot on the stair, four steps down. I tried to drag him once and the sheer terror in his eyes before we got two steps down... I figured if we had a tornado, I wouldn't be able to let him be, I would have to drag him.

I forgot all about this shot of some "sorting out" time. Maggie (on the right), being instructed by Yogi (on the left) as to who really runs the show.

This is what happens when you don't move your hand fast enough when playing ball with little boy. I was trying to roll the ball around on the back of his neck to mess with him but I lost. Can't get upset when it's dad's fault. At least his teeth are ok.

Agree. If my reaction time was as good as my middle aged black shepherd, I could be a deadly bracket racer.

yeah something traumatic no doubt happened to her
in a truck/car prior (maybe ?) afraid of heights (?)
or (maybe ?) she has an injury/ailment, sore joints she's not displaying etc.,
they are great at hiding pain
something from her past

it will take work, time (use a harness too, more control)
she needs trust & support, repetition/familiarity
even some strong obediance (maybe ?)
a task or a job some dogs are highly work driven
some dogs need a firm hand/voice
(not abusive, I doubt you would anyway)
You're the boss, don't let them get away with stuff
or they will make it a habit
take time to get over it
dogs thrive that have obedience, know their limits, know the rules
& will be better or happier dogs, because of or for it...

or
like you said,
it may just come down no car/truck rides for her
that'd be tough if she needs a vet/DVM

good luck

I can't imagine not taking any of my dogs for rides

My dog Elvis won't get in the front seat
of either my RR or my truck
he will only get in the back after I pull the seat back forward
habit more than anything
I have disciplined him, since a wee lil' pup, to stay in the back too
not to climb in the front, it's a double edge sword of my makings...
All my other dogs would jump in the front as soon as I left...
He never does...
But it's almost like he's afraid to get in the front seat, I tried...

My Grampa Ernie (mom's dad) had Dobbies,
for several decades, some 2 at a time, males & females
headstrong & stubborn for damn sure
only time I've ever been bitten playing with a dog,
as a younger kid like 10
He (big male) didn't want me to touch his tennis ball
he'd stand in a corner & growl, he was fine otherwise...
We were still buds, after too...
Just really possessive of that ball/toy... (almost obsessive)
I grew up with him, saw him almost daily, since a tinny puppy...
He loved fetching & catching a frisbee too...
I walked him a lot...
They lived just around the corner from us, a few blocks away...
I was never abusive or anything negative, I'm a dog person/dog lover...
Had dogs my whole life, I could approach dogs nobody else could...
My grampa & his wife especially (like his 4th) let the dog get away with
all kinds of stuff, bad behavior, & she'd still say good dog... :BangHead:
In my direct family & our dogs, were never allowed to do or act like...
In the kennel for a time out...

My baby girl sleeps on the bed and I'm now getting up once during the night to let her out. Dad has to go first so I close the bedroom door behind me and she waits on the bed. Then I pick her up and when we get to the kitchen, I set her down. She walks in front of me with her tail dancing around and out she goes. She hasn't jumped off the bed as she needs help to get up... or so I thought. This morning when I came back for her, she was on the bed with the greatest treasure in the world. Yesterday's sock. It was on the floor when I left, so somebody has been sandbagging me.

Only once a night? You're lucky! I think my dogs drink Dr Pepper. They go potty at 10,2, and 4. A.M. that is.

Rebel has gotten me several times, it's always an accident......... we don't tell Mom

Sadie turned 14 this fall. We played too hard when she was young.. lots of arthritis meds now. She has chased frisbees since she was a tiny pup. Spirit is still willing.
She loves to go with me. She wanted a ride so bad Sunday she was howling. Pretty funny cause she is the strong silent type.

Definate "meat eaters", good thing!!

REBEL!! Do NOT try THAT on Mort, you'll have to explain yourself to "Uncle John"!!!

Mine bit me. She was chewing a toy while laying against my arm. She loves to puncture that rubber bone, she's chewing it now making over 100 BPM (bites per minute). Chewing away, she reached over and bit my soft inner forearm. She made six or more needle sized holes in my arm with that one chomp.
I didn't have to say NO! When I jumped and blurted: AH!, she jumped too
