he's in the smallest choker I have, still a lil' big
from Elvis & Lord Budnicks' puppydom stage

I tried the video, him fetching a ball down the hall
he jumps like a deer, pounces on it, cute
but it won't load, oh well

damn he moves every time I try & take the photo too

I have to be stealthy taking pics or vids of Toga and Zeke. If they know my phone is out for a Kodak moment, they stop their shenanigans. I still manage to get some though.

Penny out for a walk around the lake and each of my brothers dogs on a combine ride. Picture sent from my brother of Tank and Coco. I can't imagine getting both pups up/down the ladder!

Last weekend was the 2024 Ice cream cruise at Pacific Junction, Iowa. 2500 cars and quite a few pups at the dog show! Fun time!

This almost became my dog last Sunday. After cars n coffee I went to get food with a friend and this girl was hit by a car just as we walked out of the place and her leg was bleeding.
I followed her around until I got her trust and unknown to me my friend got this pic of me carrying her. I got my friend to hold her in the pass seat as I drove home to switch cars real quick since I had the Coronet and then took her to the ER( I still don’t fully trust the ‘net). I told them I’ll adopt her etc if needed because I don’t want her in the pound but luckily she was chipped and reunited with her family. Her name is Latte.

You did great sir. Thankyou.

YW! I hope the owners keep a close eye on her now. I really don't want a dog again but I figure it will be some situation like that which will lead to me having one again. All the dogs I've had in my adult life were street dogs that needed help.

Yep all my dogs are adopted , when I adopted Riley and wanted to but a Rottie. My son reminded me we only adopt dad. Someone gave up on Thor and he was at a shelter. Im blessed.

Haven’t posted on Cora in a while.
You may recall that we got her just over a year ago as a forest fire refugee. She was in a shelter but was labeled as aggressive so nobody wanted her. When the shelter heard that we were rescuing cats and looking after them on my friends farm they asked if we could take four more cats. And an aggressive dog.
Ultimately we saved and looked after 17 cats and this dog. When it all was over we decided to keep the dog, Cora.
We knew nothing about her, other than the fact that she was supposed to be aggressive. About the second day in she thrashed a pit bull, so we thought perhaps there may be something to that. She and the pittie ultimately became fast friends.
In many other ways Cora was a handful, and we were starting to think perhaps we were in over our heads. Then one day the shelter that gave her to us emailed that they thought that she was a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I had never heard of such a thing and googled it. Literally the first thing that popped up was “10 Reasons that you should not get a Ridgeback”. Hmmm…
Reading about the breed and researching how to deal with them was game changing. It made it possible for us to enjoy this dog and for her to flourish. If you are looking for a normal, average dog Ridgebacks are not for you. They take time and effort. Put in some time and effort and they are amazing creatures. Fail to do that and you both will be miserable.
As far as aggressive, we don’t really see that. Certainly now that she is settled in and feeling secure she is not at all aggressive and gets along with pretty much every dog. One exception was a few weeks ago when wife and daughter were walking her. They encountered another dog on the trail and immediately both went after each other. Cora had the other dog in a bear hug with her jaws on its neck when they got pulled apart. Then yesterday they were walking her and a border collie came out and attacked her. Cora thrashed him, then chased him into his yard and thrashed him more in front of his owner.
But other than those instances she has been social, and has a network of other rough and tumble dogs that she hangs with. They play rough, very rough, but it is just playing. Her best friend is our neighbours dog, Jovie. Jovie is a husky cross Heinz 57 and is batshit crazy. The two of them are genuinely best friends. Daughters in-laws have a rough northern dog, Pilot. They get along well but play so rough you would think they are killing each other, but it is just playing and sparring. Literally a spinning ball of snarling dogs, not unlike the Tasmanian Devil on Bugs Bunny. We think that this rough play may have been mistaken for aggression in the past. She’s been in two kennels while Linda and I go to Mexico and both places said that she was a sweetheart.
She is amazing with children, and will seek them out. She tolerates our cats, but doesn’t really like them. She won’t poop in the yard, and will hold it until we go for our walk after work. She puts herself to bed at roughly 11:00 every night, and spoons me when we are sleeping. In our cold winters a dog with a body temperature that rivals the sun spooning you is not a bad thing.
So there you go, a dog that just needed to be loved.
