Donny's 1969 Satellite

Nice work Donny!
Did you make a paper template of the profile of the subframe connector?

I've been getting back to getting things done! Been doing far less putting things off these days, one of these tasks that is DONE vs. put off has been welding in completely the frame connectors on this car!

I've 'fixed' my home-made connectors. As the former pics indicate I used 2" sq tubing to make my first-generation of frame connectors. I only did this because having the car on my rotisserie was a worry, and having it tighter down below was and remains a good idea. However, after scoring a set of 'real' frame connectors for my other B Body (GTX) from a member here, I decided that having this same style was prudent on the Satellite.

So, I traced the unique floor pattern off the new connectors in some heavy sheet metal, cut them out, fit them onto my 2" sq tubing connectors, tack welded them on, and put it off for months. Well, yesterday I went through a LOT of welding gas and welded them in tightly to the floor and to the 2" sq pipe, and, stood back and said "Ahhh".

Pics coming later today!

Soooo....I guess it's unlikely that you have a tracing of that floor pattern on some graph paper, and a high resolution photo with scale markings to show us :)

Great looking welding you've done!

Nice project.

Just wanted to say great heck of a job your doing there Donny.
I have 1 question and I'm sure you know alot about media blasting. I recently purchased the new dual master blaster from eastwood and has been delivered and sits in my garage as we speak. I'm not leaving Kuwait until Friday night and I was hoping that maybe you can share some of your experience on media blasting? I started a thread on the tools, shop, etc. forum titled Finally got my....

If someone wants a paper template, I can still do this, for a small donation to my pay pal account as there appears to be about 3 of you all that wish for this? How I made this was I took the new XV connectors, traced the unique pattern onto the new sheet metal (kind of thick I must admit) with a scratch awl and cut them out this way with a jig saw with lots cutting oil and the best metal blade you can find. Cut slowly, and incrementally too, with lots of oil! When the one template is cut out you will still having fitting and trimming to make it fit your floor.

One bit of warning, some of the gaps you likely will encounter will take a very good and experience welder to fill in with out blowing/burning holes through the other side. As my picture indicates, some of my gaps were just as big, some smaller, others (not too many) were even bigger! This whole process isn't a cake-walk, it takes some time and effort. Remember, I started with 2" 3/16 thickness sq tubing that I welded in a few years ago as my 'frame connectors', but, when I scored a 'proper' set of connectors from a chap here on FBBO, I decided to mimic these new ones on the Satellite. So, you all could score some sq pipe, some sheetmetal and the unique patterns I have and have at it!

If anyone is seriously interested in having me trace the patterns out for them, I will on each one, from the XV connectors I have. Send me a note through my website and I'll get right on it.

Roadbird, I will check out your thread you mentioned. Its probably a good unit, good for small stuff here and there at home, you should have no issues with it.

Okay Donny...I sent you a note through your website. Thanks for the offer...

But, yeah, the intent was to say I was interested. I'll try again.

I fixed it, sort of...the hyperlink portion is disabled, so, you'll have to copy email into your to line. The hyperlink was the old email, thanks for bringing this to my attention!!!

Sprayed some epoxy primer on my other fender...after blasting it, fixing it, self etching it, and now, epoxy primer'd it! The Satellite fenders are in much better shape than the GTX ones were in. Also, some BB valve covers, engine mounts, rear seat arm panel thingy's, 300 under hood cross bracing, all came out pretty good! Amazing I'm almost done with the small parts off all 3 cars!
