Ok, got some news on this car! Over the past 2 weeks I've worked on this car 4 days - blasting it. I admit, this car has never been media blasted, and this is what I do! I know, incredulous! But, what I'm going to say here is to be filed in 'Lessons Learned' for myself, and, hopefully some of you out there!
First of all, this has been a rolling test-bed per se over the past several years, too many if I actually count them up, but, thank goodness I can blame the US Army for keeping me too busy to do anything much on it (and my other cars), and, being self-employed I do your stuff before I do my stuff! But, as I look at my calender, I have to move stuff around, and, I'm done moving my stuff around to be dealt with later. So, I imposed a stubborn plug up my yahzoo and dealt with my car first; before I do the 67 Fairlane and 70 'Cuda (both are waiting).
Here's my situation. The floors on this car were so-so, probably not ready to be swapped, but, the frankenstein work I did on them welding in patch panels here and there over the years, and that qtr installation job...Oh My! The welds and overall quality are NOT up to my current standards. And, back when I welded them on/in, I was SO proud and took tons of pics etc. Then, put the entire bottom in some not-so good (too thick) Epoxy Primer, then 2K Primer (don't ask me why), then a custom near T7 mix with a bit of metallic, that is a really cool color! But, all this new primer and paint was put on a not 100% eradicated POR-15 job that I lathered on to 'store' the car outside for a year when I was over in Iraq. Well, as I said, when I was doing this painting, my equipment was not set up, and I had no facility to take my project to, let alone anyone willing to do the work I do on these cars today. So, me and my Dad scraped off the POR-15 as much and as far as we could, but, there still was chips/peeling here and there in the corners. Sure, the bottom no one will see, right? I will, as I have a lift and will be underneath it and it's that Stubborness to do the job right, the first time. Now that I've been set-up to do jobs right the fist time since 2008, how I have neglected to do right to my own stuff is in a sermon somewhere.
But, now, the entire car is blasted clean, and, all my errors and other areas are bare to see -- whereas I can (and will) fix them here and now, like the lower A Pillar area where they all rot out, etc. I'll be taking tons of pics tomorrow, then, it will go in Epoxy Primer (much better stuff than before), and the repairs will commence, and the messed up former repairs will be dressed up as best as possible, not going to re-invent the wheel too much on this car, I have the 'Cuda and Fairlane to get hot on, not to mention the 93 Ram truck to assemble.
Warning, I will be showing you work that is NOT commensurate with what I currently do, so, keep this in mind when viewing, but, I will let you see it all in the ugly glory etc.
