Door Panel repair help please!

My 63 SF vert is original in every respect, but the right door panel is loose and bent at the lower forward end. Photos show why: apparently the cardboard was wet, some previous owner stapled some of it together, unsuccessfully.
My plan is to maybe steam iron the cardboard flat?? and then glue the cardboard layers, and then glue the cardboard to the outer carpet section. Then i need to design a way to install the broken and missing wire spikes which go into the holes in the sheet metal of the door.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I suggest you let the pros give you a quote. Find the most respected auto upholstery shop in your area and take it there. I had a door panel with the worn corner and my go-to upholstery shop fixed perfectly for $30. Had I attempted to fix it, I think would have turned it into junk.

I've repaired these. Carefully remove the cover from the board. Go to the local upholstery shop and get some fiber board. Make a new board using the old one as a template. Pay careful attention to the clip holes. Spray trim adhesive and reglue. You can also use masonite. Its tougher to cut. I use a drywall router to cut the clip holes. Made my Belvedere parts. Just made some boards for my wife's 67 Gladiator.

I agree with dvw, make a new board and reinstall the cover. Yes upholstery shops do it everyday but it doesn't get anymore elementary than this.
