I'm looking for recommendations for radiators to fit our 62-65 B's. I believe they only fit 22" rads, but the Northern I bought turns out to be 26" core. Northern's website indicates an overall width of 25.25" which should have fit, but it's actually over 29".
I emailed Northern and they responded saying overall dimensions do not include the brackets. That's bs in my opinion. Overall is exactly that...overall! The core measurement is also shown so I'm not sure what to do here.

Many of the manufacturers don't seem to offer 22" rads to fit our B's.

What have you guys used for big blocks, other than recoring original (i don't have one)?

Has anyone somehow installed a 26"? I can't see how to make that work with the battery still up front.

I was also thinking of recoring the poly318 rad I still have, to larger tubes if the tanks will take them, but the top inlet would be center, not to the right as I believe it should be for a big block. I can live with it if I have to, but the cost is still going to be $500 +/-.

thanks,
Glen

i have a factory 22" a/c radiator in my 65 coronet. i did have it re-cored to 4 rows/ 3/8" spacing. it works very well. how many rows you can fit into a factory radiator will depend on the width of the bottom tank. a 2" tank will take three 1/2" row and a 2 5/8" tank will take four 1/2" rows.

2X ^^^

I ran a Glen Ray "max Cool" 22" in my 64 with the cross ram Hemi and it did fine. When I put the blown motor in last summer, I went to a 26" Radiator w/two electric fans and cut the front to get max air flow. You should be ok with a good, clean 4 row 22" and a 7 blade clutch fan with a shroud. It is VERY important to run the shroud. The stock '64 set up works very well when clean and complete.

Thanks for the tips guys...much appreciated!

I checked Glen-Ray's website but they only seem to offer 26" rads. Are Classic's rads good?

I will be listing two radiators that I have in the shop being checked out. They are both recored, and both 22 ". One is for a standard trans and one for an auto. I will list one later today, ( the standard trans one) and the other one Monday when I pick it up. Might be what someone is looking for. Will post ad with number some time this morn. Thanks. If it ever warms up here..........

pretty sure the Classic radiators are U.S. Radiators; from experience they are iffy. 9/16" is a wider spacing than stock and will have less tubes.

I also have a 22" GlenRay rad in my 65. Call Bob and discuss. Great guy to talk to.

Well Northern admitted to an error on their website this morning. They offered an alternative which looks like the original Poly one I took out of it. The top inlet is nearly center. I think I'd like it to look correct and more stock, even if it is an aluminum rad.
Now to see if I can get a refund or the run around from Performance Improvements.

if you do not find anything I have a 1964 radiator that was recorded years ago and worked fine when removed. Cooled my street wedge no problems.318 radiator for an automatic.
Needs side straps reattached.
$75.00 OBO located Metro Detroit.

thanks 6t4. I still have a 318 rad that could use a flush but doesn't leak. I contemplated having it re-cored, but the lower tank is only 2" wide; which seems a bit tight for larger tubes. I see Wizard has some direct fit but I don't see many that will accommodate an oem style shroud. They all seem to be going to electric fans.

I had my stock 22 inch rad from my 64 Belvedere re-cored to a 3 row radiator.
Cost 3 years ago over $600.00

Check out Smith's radiators and ask for Tony, he built a racelite 1 1/2" single core for my 64 Savoy w/492 stroker for the strip just like factory OEM design only lighter in weight and all aluminum, did a great job, not cheap but has never over heated as OEM did w/two cores, only have water pump with electric motor driven fan, has tabs for should also.

thankfully I got my money back last night! I'm going to look into recoring the poly rad first, then possibly ordering a champion.

I used a 26 inch radiator and shroud from a 69 RR. Only cause I had it. Didn't cut the Car . Works awesome. And I can buy a shroud that fits, unlike aluminum like is in my Dart.

decided against the champion and went with a US rad instead. at $320US plus $60 shipping to my igloo, it's less than a recore and probably better. The quality looks much better than Champion or Northern imo.
