Good Morning All,

First post here so I thought I would show what I am working on over the last month or so. I have a 66 Charger with a 440 (originally 318) that I am converting from a Holley Carb to the Edelbrock Pro Flow 4 XT system. As with any project, it always turns out much bigger than expected. The engine bay was in need of a serious clean up as well as the engine. Engine came out and both the engine bay and motor received some new paint. Along with some new seals to stop a few oil leaks.

Motor is back in the car and I'm currently working through getting the new fuel lines in the car. So far I would say install has been fairly straight forward. Below are the major items I purchased and for the most part things seem to be falling in place. I checked hood clearance of the new system on the engine before I pulled everything apart and I believe I have more room with the XT system than I did with the Holley Carb and an air cleaner on top.

I expect I am roughly a week or two out from attempting to start for the first time. One hard lesson I learned is "buy the dang tool that compresses push lock fittings onto rubber fuel lines." I think I tore my bicep trying to get those on the not so clever way. The $300 tool is going to be looking mighty nice after my doctor visit next week.

One of the tougher solutions I thought should have been simple was to find a way to route the return line back into the fuel tank. I did find a solution on Summit and it should be linked above. But I still don't love the setup. I figured a 5/16 inch bulkhead barb fitting would not be all that difficult to find. I ordered 3 different fittings I thought would work, but when they arrived, the fittings were indeed 5/16 but the bulkhead washers and nuts where way to big for the location I wanted to place them. Thinking back I should have just had a 5/16 tube welded into the tank. But we'll see how the return line going to the filler neck works. It had great reviews on Summit and if I hadn't cut the neck off incorrectly to start with. It wouldn't have been a tough install.

A few items I'm still thinking thru are the intake elbow and if I want to move my battery to the trunk (of course I do, its just a question of do I want to do it now). I do not have electric fans on this car so the gap between my radiator fan and intake is not large. I ordered a cobra head intake elbow to see how it works for now. But once I decide what to do with the battery. I'd like to have a custom intake tube fabricated that would put air cleaners on each side of the engine bay. I thought that would look pretty clean and I thought the symmetry in the engine bay would be cool. I'd also need to figure out what to do with the upper radiator hose as it would be in the way as well. So for now, hopefully the cobra intake will get me started.

I'll continue to post pictures and thoughts as we progress. I still have some wiring to clean up and need to finish the fuel line connections. But we are nearly there. Obviously the major item here will be the tuning side and if I feel this was all worth it. I'll make sure to include the specs on the motor as well when I get into tuning so you all can compare to your engines. I really struggled with tuning a carb (and carbs, had two 4 barrels on it at one point) over the years so hopefully this helps.

Thank you Derwud! Funny enough the second I saw your pictures in your post I recognized your build from searching the Edelbrock EFI install on google images. So even without you knowing it you've been helping me as I've scrutinized some of your pictures for how you ran lines, electrical, throttle and kickdown cables and so on. Its nice to be able to say thank you!

The fuel lines themselves weren't an issue for me. It was how to get the return line back into the tank. Did you weld a return fitting into your gas tank or did you find some other way to handle it?

Below is the elbow I ordered for the intake for the time being. But I'm all ears if you have something better. I just ran out to measure my clearance between the throttle body and fan. Its just over 5.5 inches to the back of the fan blade. I haven't been able to find a 90 degree elbow with that tight of a bend other than the cobra head.

What kind of fuel pump are you using?
A little advice, don't cut corners on the fuel lines/setup, hate to see all your work go up in flames. :BangHead:

I purchased the fuel line/pump/regulator kit the instructions referenced for the Pro Flow system. I just hopped on summits website and don't see a part number reference for the fuel pump. I'll check the box it came in to see if it lists exactly what pump it is. I've already got it under the car in the insulation sleeve and I'd rather not loosen it up at this point.

Tanks Inc and Aeromotive make F.I. Tanks with a in-tank pump. Get one of those.. (I am using a 66-67 Charger tank for my Wagon) Send the other stuff back.. I am sure the is the message from @Dennis H

Yeah Dennis sent me over the forum link on that discussion. Really interesting stuff, I never even considered the gas tank being an issue. I see the lead time on Summit is out to May 5th. I'm going to call tanks inc as they are only 5 hours away from me. I'll see if I can get something squared away sooner. I can't thank you and everyone else enough. Should have joined up on the forum years ago.

They should have stock, they just sent me a tank..
 
I installed a 4150 style on a friends 70 Coronet and getting ready to install one on the Small block in my 70 Wagon.. The Coronet started right up and ran fantastic..
 
I have a Tanks Inc in the Coronet. Fit great and their customer service is excellent too.
Funny about the push loks; I commented on them in one of my threads a couple weeks ago. They are a PITA. Did you wind up getting the Koul?

Its funny now but I don't think I've ever hurt my arm so bad before I couldn't walk... :rofl: I picked up the Russell. I looked at both and pretty much just picked one. I was pretty frustrated at that point.

Yeah Tanks Inc is awesome. Just got off the phone with them and have the new tank and everything ordered. Super easy to work with. Said I should have it early next week.
