saw the header one that took me aback i thought it would have more effect on horsepower.

Yeah I was the same - banging in header tubes I used to freak out.
Those engine masters guys lark around a bit but the do some good stuff.

I just purchased the Champion 22" combo for my 66 Charger with 383 motor and they claim it's 6.25" thick. They switched out the fan for the Spal 1516 that should be a little thinner. I have 7" from core support to pulley so hopefully it will fit but won't know until it gets here Wednesday.

did you get the rad ? how did it fit ?

Received the Champion 22" 3 row radiator, shroud and Spal 30101516 fan that is 2 1/2" deep yesterday. Purchased them through Ledfoot and the combo was about 3/8" too deep. Ordered the Spal 30100400 fan today that is 2" deep so should be good to go after it gets here.

ok i think you said you had 7 in from rad support to fan ? single fan or duel is going to be right. i need to get a rad and duel fans as i have a/c

Turns out I only had 6 1/2" with the bolts back in the WP pulley. I needed to upgrade the cooling for the same reason; added Vintage Air. Never was able to find a dual fan setup for a 22" core but there are plenty for a 26". Good luck with yours.

Okay
This worries me
They sent the same fan for me to try with the 3 row and the shroud
Quick measurements show that it will be close like a 1/4 inch either way
They told me over the phone that the 2 inch would not move enough air
I am already worried the 2 1/2 wont move enough either
Their other solution was to mount the fan directly to the radiator without the shroud

I am not liking this at all
I may have to bite the bullet and go 26 inch radiator and dual fans
The only other solution may be a pusher on front and a puller on back without a shroud

if it fits take some cardboard and make temples so when they fit you cam make them out of plastic so the all air will be able to go thru the condenser for direct flow all air use fome tape to seal off all opens around the side of rad .and install air dams that you made to go thru condenser to then go thru rad .look how a new car is done.

If you use the fan as a puller (engine side) you will need a shroud to get the fan to pull air across the whole radiator.
Used as a pusher you do not need the shroud.
I use a 16 inch pusher fan mounted approximately 6 mm off the radiator core on a stock 22 inch radiator and have no problems at all. The fan is mounted close to the top tank where the hottest water enters the radiator.

Did your car originally have air? If it did you should have a 26" hole in the core support for the 26" radiator. If it didn't the hole will be 22" and I'm not sure how the 26" would work.
The SPAL 2 1/2" fan is rated at 1604 CFM while the 2" is 1300 CFM. Not sure what the stock setup pushes but I would think it would be quite a bit less. I'm hoping the combination of aluminum radiator, shroud and electric fan will beat the GA heat with the Vintage Air on high.

Non -Air factory 22" radiator

The original SPAL fan was 2099 cfm
the 2 1/2" is 1604
so I am already losing CFM
I will know Sunday if it works

ok im lost did you buy this ?

This is the one I bought. They switched the regular fan out for the SPAL 30101516 fan ($50 upgrade) that is 2 1/2" wide but it was too deep.

I run a late 90s ford contour dual fan off a fan controller and it works great. Two fans encased in a shroud that was almost a perfect fit for a 26" rad. Clears all pulleys and I even went with a wider 7 rib aftermarket pulley setup and have a Be Cool aluminum rad.

I agree to do the job on a V8 you really need a fan rated at over 2000 cfm in my opinion.

guys yes
I bought the Champion 22 inch Radiator - 3 core
At the time I did not buy the shroud like I should have
I called them and bought a shroud a year after the radiator
it is the one for 16 inch fan, they no longer offer the dual fan shroud in a 22 inch rad
I upgraded to the high performance fan SPAL 2049 but it was way too thick
They sent me the 2.5 inch fan and I will try it tomorrow
the tape measure says it will be very close but should work

because it was a year ago while we were assembling the car, the radiator is no longer under warranty so I cant return
If this doesn't work tomorrow, I will have to go to the 26" rad and dual fans
at least I can send the fans back for credit but I will lose the cost of the radiator and possibly the shroud
I hate to lose that much money but will if I have to
I need this done right in-spite of myself
